When I first tried Chalong’s charcoal grilled meat bowls at Tanjong Pagar Centre, I was literally blown away by how delicious it tasted. This is definitely one of my favourite eateries in Singapore! Chalong specializes in awesome charcoal grilled meats that are cooked in the acclaimed Josper Charcoal Oven, and smoked with apple wood to give it more depth and flavour. The chef also uses the Sous vide cooking technique, where food is cooked at a controlled temperature under vacuum in a hot water bath. The control of heat allows consistency in temperature of the cooked meats, ensuring premium quality every time. Continue reading
When I first heard from a friend that the Japan Rail Cafe was going to open in Singapore at Tanjong Pagar Centre, I was a little skeptical about the concept. It seemed odd to me that a Japanese railway company (the “East Japan Railway Company”, aka JR East), would open a bistro in Singapore selling both food and Japanese rail passes. Continue reading
Recently, we discovered Kushiya, a hidden gem at Westgate that serves awesome charcoal-grilled Japanese skewers. It may not be the most prominent eatery on the level, but its modest shopfront belies the delicious food that it has to offer. Continue reading

Around two weeks ago, we chanced upon Cheeky Chicky, a great bistro along North Bridge Road (Singapore) that serves Japanese / Western fusion food. We were blown away by the delicious food and decided to do an interview with the founders!
From the sincere and enthusiastic staff to the convivial atmosphere to the heavenly Beer Can Chicken, everything was just oh-so-perfect! Continue reading

Located at the top floor of Orchard Central, Sumiya Charcoal Grill Izakaya is a modern, industrial-themed Japanese restaurant that serves fresh charcoal grilled food. The literal translation of “Sumiya” is charcoal (sumi) house (ya). Indulge in Japanese charcoal grilled food while enjoying the great rooftop view! Continue reading
Marutama Ramen at Clark Quay Central
Some of my friends claim that Marutama Ramen serves the “best Ramen in Singapore”. Even though we don’t think it’s the “best”, Raevian and I enjoyed eating here. The price is reasonable, and service is good and consistent as well. Marutama Ramen is definitely the place to go if you want to have a hearty bowl of yummy ramen noodles served in savoury chicken broth! Continue reading
Conclusion: Wallet-Friendly Teppanyaki
This was a very filling dinner. The five plates of food below found their way into our two little stomachs within just twenty minutes. Other than the rice and miso soup that turned cold even before the main dishes had been served, and given that we were dining in a food court at an affordable price, we felt that their service and quality of food were generally acceptable. We will definitely be back for this! Continue reading
Unpretentious and Affordable Japanese Hotpot Buffet
Overall, we felt that the quality of the food was decent enough for the price we paid. Service wise, they appeared to be short-staffed and definitely need to improve on their general customer service and attitude. If you don’t mind the nonchalant service and simply just want to savour unpretentious and affordable Japanese hotpot with free flow of meat, this would be the place for you. Continue reading
