Kiyoshi Japanese Restaurant – Classy Izakaya Style Eatery Opens At Amoy Street, With Islandwide Delivery

Kiyoshi Japanese Restaurant is a new izakaya-style eatery at Amoy Street (Tanjong Pagar) that serves a wide variety of Japanese dishes. They specialise in “inaniwa” udon, a type of handmade udon that hails from the Akita prefecture of Japan.

The restaurant aims to provide a light and wholesome meal for customers, which is why they use the word “Kiyoshi” (清) in both their name and logo.

The eatery exudes an elegant and minimalist Japanese vibe. The obligatory, Japanese-inspired beige colour scheme is a nice contrast to the CBD bustle just outside its doors.

I was impressed by the wall of sake barrels stacked up to the dark tinted mirror ceiling.

Service was decent, though I found it strange that I had to sit at the counter because according to the staff, all their empty tables were “fully reserved”. The tables remained unoccupied even when I left around one hour later.

Menu

Some pages from the menu

The impressive menu boasts a large variety of Japanese dishes like udon, sashimi, sushi, donburi, ramen, yakitori, bento sets, Japanese curry rice, desserts, and even salads.

The drinks menu offers a wide selection of Japanese beer and liquor.

The prices of the main dishes range between $15 and $20, which is quite reasonable considering the restaurant’s location.

Unagi Don Set

I ordered the Unagi Donburi Set ($19.80), a value-for-money set that consists of an unagi rice bowl, noodles, chawanmushi, salad, and fruits.

The grilled unagi had a pleasant savoury-sweet taste from the teriyaki sauce, along with a soft texture that was still firm enough to provide a nice chew. The portion was also quite big.

For my noodles, I chose the hot “inaniwa” udon, which is a special type of handmade udon that is imported from Akita (Japan). They were thinner than the regular plump udon, and had a nice chewy bite along with a slippery-smooth texture.

Soft Shell Crab Roll

The Soft Shell Crab Maki Roll ($13.80) was quite tasty too! The fried soft shell crab was juicy and crunchy to the bite, going nicely with the sushi rice. The flying fish roe provided a pleasant tangy aftertaste.

Islandwide Delivery

Kiyoshi delivers islandwide for a flat fee of $11, which is waived for orders above $100. A minimum order of $30 applies. Order through this website: https://inline.app/order/kiyoshi/amoystreet.
