White Feathers – Artisanal Café In Novena Serves Japanese-Italian Fusion Food, Desserts, and Coffee

White Feathers is an artisanal cafe that serves unique Japanese-Italian fusion food. It opened in November last year and is located near Novena MRT Station (beside Ah Chew Desserts). This is my full review of the cafe!

The cafe has a Japanese-inspired beige and white colour scheme, which gives it a breezy and minimalist vibe.

Full length windows allow for plenty of natural daylight, creating a bright and casual dining space.

Three whimsical chandeliers adorned with white feathers hang from the ceiling, serving as a nod to the cafe’s name.

The staff were earnest and attentive. I was served lemon-infused iced water while waiting for the food, which was a nice touch.

Menu (click to enlarge)

The extensive menu offers a variety of Japanese-Italian fusion dishes, including pastas, thin-crust pizzas, donburis and salads. Desserts and light bites are available too.

The drinks menu features a selection of coffee, tea, wine and beer. There is a set lunch menu for $19.90 too.

If you can’t decide on what to order, you can consider checking out their popular items:

– Unagi Teriyaki Pizza ($16)
– Sakura Angel Ebi Hair ($18)
– Unagi & Egg Pasta ($18)
– Wagyu Don ($32)
– Japanese Prawn Tempura ($14)
– Veneto Tiramisu ($8)
– Dark Chocolate Lava Cake ($12)

All the above prices are nett because there is no service charge or GST.

Unagi Teriyaki Pizza

The Unagi Teriyaki Pizza ($16) consists of eight thin slices of pizza topped with unagi, teriyaki sauce, mozzarella, a sprinkling of spring onions, and a heap of shredded Japanese seaweed in the middle.

This was an innovative combination that worked surprisingly well.

The respective umami flavours of the mozzarella and teriyaki came together perfectly, with the seaweed and spring onions adding additional flavour and texture.

Contrary to how it looks, the thin crust was actually not crispy. Instead, it had proper chew and a nice mouthfeel.

The unagi chunks were fresh and tasty, and went really well with the pizza crust.

Aglio E Olio Prawn

The Aglio E Olio Prawn ($18) is prawn spaghetti tossed with Japanese bonito sauce, olive oil, garlic, chili, fresh herbs, and seaweed.

The bonito sauce (made from bonito tuna and soy sauce) gave the pasta a savoury and delicate fishy flavour with a hint of smokiness.

The spaghetti was al dente though I felt it was slightly dry. The prawns did not have vibrant colours but they were tasty and briny.

On the whole, I enjoyed the pleasant blend of flavours in this unique fusion pasta.

Conclusion

I am glad to have discovered White Feathers! This hidden gem offers well-executed Japanese-Italian fusion dishes that are both interesting and delicious. In addition, the tastefully-done up space is great for chilling out with good food, coffee and desserts.
