10 Best Things To Do In Wengen, Switzerland – Fun Skiing Lessons, Amazing Hiking Trails, Delicious Food, and More!

This is my list of 10 fun things to do in Wengen, Switzerland. This quintessential Swiss village is known for its rustic Swiss wooden chalets, charming Belle Epoque hotels, and tranquil car-free setting. It is located in the Jungfrau region of Bernese Oberland.

The wife and I stayed here for two days during our holiday in Switzerland. It was a wonderful experience to stay in this idyllic village that offers an old world charm and stunning views of the gorgeous Swiss Alps.

Based on my personal experience and research, I have created a list of 10 awesome things to do in Wengen below.

1. Wengen-Männlichen Aerial Cableway

Luftseilbahn Wengen-Männlichen Cable Car Station

This is a scenic cable car ride between Wengen and Männlichen (a mountain in the Swiss Alps). The cable car station is a 3-minute walk from Wengen train station.

From Männlichen, you will get to enjoy awesome views of the three famous mountains in the Swiss Alps: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. It is also a great vantage point for views of the beautiful alpine valley below.

The cable car ride is about 6 minutes. It runs every 20 minutes, and costs CHF 23 (CHF 11.50 with the Swiss Half Fare Card).

The cable car is in operation for most of May to October. Check out the latest cable car schedule here.

2. Männlichen-Kleine Scheidegg Hike (Panorama Trail)

From Männlichen, you can hike for about 4.4km to Kleine Scheidegg. This is also known as the Panorama Trail.

It is an easy route with picture-perfect views that should take around 1.5 hours. This is a great hike for families and beginner hikers.

The path leads through beautiful meadows, which will be covered with colourful wildflowers in the summer.

3. Männlichen Royal Walk

The Männlichen Royal Walk is a short 1km hike up to the Männlichen peak. It is a gentle uphill walk (100 metres elevation gain) that is suitable for families with children.

At the top, there is an observation deck which offers awesome views of the Swiss Alps.

You can consider doing this short hike before starting on the route to Kleine Scheidegg.

4. Wengen-Kleine Scheidegg Hike

It is also possible to hike from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg. However, it is a challenging 6.9km route with steep uphill climbs. The hike will take about 3 hours to complete.

The trail leads through pine forests and beautiful grasslands. You will see cows grazing and local Swiss timber chalets along the way.

The last section of the hike offers breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau summits.

This route is suitable for outdoor enthusiasts with a high level of fitness.

5. Sledding / Sledging From Männlichen

Used my drone to capture some aerial shots

The wife and I stayed at an airbnb in Wengen during our holiday in Switzerland. It felt surreal to be surrounded by rustic Swiss chalets and enjoy amazing views of the Swiss alps every day.

And I loved that the village was traffic-free. I did spot a few small vehicles travelling along the main road, but they were very rare.

Therefore, compared to the other Swiss villages / towns we visited, Wengen was significantly quieter.

The wife and I spent about one hour walking around this idyllic village to revel in its beauty and tranquility. I also used my drone to capture some pretty aerial footage.
