My Airbnb Experience in Wengen, Switzerland – Pretty Loft Apartment With Mezzanine Bedroom

During my holiday in Wengen (Switzerland), I stayed at an airbnb loft apartment. It was a pleasant two-night stay and this is my full review of the accommodation. Before coming here, I stayed at Carlton Europe in Interlaken for one night.

“Central Wengen Wonderland: Mezzanine Studio for 4”

Our airbnb was a loft apartment located on the second floor above a bar. It can accommodate up to four people. We had the entire apartment to ourselves.

It is owned by Chris, an Australian who lives in Wengen. According to his airbnb profile, he is into extreme sports like snowboarding, skiing, speed flying and paragliding.

He also teaches “risk management in extreme aerial sports” and does motivational speaking.

Chris was extremely responsive and helpful when I asked him questions through the airbnb messaging platform.

A few weeks before our stay, he sent me an email containing a bunch of useful information including clear directions to his apartment, key collection details, laundry instructions, etc.

Getting To The Airbnb

Scenic route to our airbnb

To get to the airbnb, the wife and I had to walk for about four minutes from Wengen train station.

It was quite a tiring walk because we had to drag our heavy luggage up a mild uphill slope.

After reaching the building, we had to climb up two flights of steps to reach the apartment on the second floor.

This was not an easy feat considering that we were carrying three pieces of heavy luggage.

Cozy Loft Apartment

Spot the pair of vintage wooden skis

Our airbnb was a quaint loft apartment with a mezzanine bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom. It had a wooden ceiling with beams, and was furnished mostly with wooden furniture.

The space was decorated with several vintage ski equipment. There were also extreme sports pictures on the walls.

The living room was quite spacious with a comfy fabric sofa and television set.

There was no air-conditioning, which is the case with most accommodations in the Bernese Oberlands. This was not a problem since the weather was very cool.

There was a heater of course, but we didn’t have to use it at all when we visited in April.

Strong Wifi

The wifi connection was very strong and we had no problems connecting to the internet throughout our stay. The modem / router was located beside the television set.

Mezzanine Bedroom

The “bedroom” was located on the mezzanine floor, which we had to climb up a ladder to reach. This was a slight inconvenience.

The bed was also really near to the ceiling so we had to be careful not to knock our heads. However, the double bed was quite plush and comfortable.

Fully-Equipped Kitchen

Two free beers inside the fridge

Plenty of cooking utensils!

Well stocked pantry

The kitchen was fully equipped with a fridge, Bosch oven and Bosch induction cooker. There were two complimentary beers inside the fridge.

I was really impressed to find a complete range of clean cooking utensils like knifes, scissors, frying pans, slicing boards and more.

Chris was even nice enough to stock up the pantry with plenty of food items like coffee, tea, condiments, peanut butter, jams, cooking oil, flour and more.

Clean Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and had all the necessary amenities such as towels, hair dryer, toiletries, etc.

The water pressure was not very strong, but at least the heater worked very well. It always felt great to take a long hot bath after spending a full day outside in the cold Swiss weather.

Washer and Dryer

The building has a communal washer and dryer that cost CHF 1 per use. They only operate from 11.30am to 1.30 pm, and 6pm to 7.30 pm. This is per Swiss Law.

According to Chris, your clothes will get stuck in the machines if you do not finish washing or drying them within these timings.

Ski Room

If you need to store your luggage before checking-in or after checking out, you can use the building’s Ski Room. According to Chris, the room is usually locked.

Tourist Tax

Before leaving, I had to pay a “tourist tax” of CHF 17.20 per person. According to Chris, this is required by Swiss law.

I left the money on the coffee table before checking out. It is also possible to pay at the tourist office near the train station.

Sina’s Pub

The airbnb is located above Sina’s Pub, a popular bar that offers beer, pizza and other finger food.

We stayed at the airbnb in April and did not hear any noise from the bar at all. However, it may be more noisy during the peak seasons of summer and winter.

Conclusion

On the whole, I’m pleased to have chosen this airbnb for our stay in Wengen, Switzerland. The loft apartment was clean, comfortable, and had all the necessary amenities. The only inconveniences were the uphill walk with our luggage, and the lack of elevator access on the second floor. However, the route from the station to our airbnb was a really scenic path with amazing views of the gorgeous Swiss alps.

TQVM for sharing your experience of this airbnb. The photos are very helpful.

How much did you pay for your stay?

Where are the other two beds other than the double bed in the loft?

I hope you find time to answer my questions. TQVM again.

    Hi Kee Yan,

    You’re very welcome!

The price fluctuates based on booking period so it’s best that you check the Airbnb website.

Other than the bed on the mezzanine floor, the sofa in the living room doubles as a pull-out sofa bed too.
