藝 Yì By Jereme Leung (Raffles Hotel) – Classy Chinese Restaurant Serves Dim Sum And Other Exquisite Dishes

I used to dine at Royal China in Raffles Hotel frequently before the hotel closed for renovation, but when I went back recently I realised that the space had been taken over by a new Chinese restaurant: 藝 Yì By Jereme Leung.

Yì’s kitchen is helmed by Chef Jereme Leung, who runs nine Chinese restaurants across the world and even starred as a judge on MasterChef China.

According to the Raffles Hotel website, his cuisine “showcases a perfect blend of modern techniques with classical Chinese provincial food”.

藝 stands for “art” in Chinese. Indeed, after walking through the doors, I was greeted with a surreal walkway decorated with paper white flower petals.

The restaurant interior is equally impressive, boasting a spacious and elegant space with a soothing pastel colour theme.

Remember to look upwards to admire the whimsical Chinese fans hanging from the ceilings.

The tables are laid with classy Chinese porcelain tableware that are beautiful and stylish.

Service was excellent – we were provided hot towels upon being seated, which was a nice touch. All the staff were very polite and my food came quickly after ordering.

Menu

The menu features a variety of Chinese dishes, seafood dishes, and dim sum.

Sichuan Spicy Chicken

For my first dish, I had the chef-recommended Sichuan Spicy Chicken & Luncheon ($10). This was my favourite dish of the meal!

Served in a nifty little iron pot, the chicken chunks were tender and juicy with that distinctive “mala” kick, but were not overly spicy. The luncheon meat chunks were delicious too.

This is a great dish to enjoy without being overpowered by the notorious Sichuan spiciness.

Siew Mai

The Siew Mai ($9 for 3pcs) was served in a pretty wooden crate and contained sakura shrimp, pork and seafood. It was decent enough.

Har Kaw

The Har Kaw ($9 for 3pcs) came with black garlic. The shrimps were fresh and I liked the subtle garlicky aftertaste.

Sesame Shrimp Toast

The Sesame Shrimp Toast ($13 for 4pcs) was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the sesame fragrance, crunchy skin, and juicy shrimp paste. The sweet and sour dip added a tang and an extra dimension.

Sesame Rice Dumplings With Salted Egg Yolk

The Sesame Rice Dumplings With Salted Egg Yolk ($9) was decent but not fantastic. The salted egg yolk was tasty and velvety, but it could have been more fragrant.

Char Siew Rice Rolls

The Char Siew Rice Rolls ($10) was quite satisfying, but I wished I had ordered the Rice Roll with Poached Chicken and Spicy Sichuan Sesame Dressing instead. This was because my neighbouring table ordered that dish and it looked really appetising.

Imperial Pu Er

Drinking the fragrant Imperial Pu Er ($8) tea was a great way to cleanse my palate and gut after the meal. I loved the pretty teapot set too!

Conclusion

On the whole, 藝 Yì By Jereme Leung offers tasty Chinese food, beautiful crockery, a lovely dining environment, and excellent service. The food was not exceptional but definitely above average. Prices are slightly high due to the restaurant being located in one of Singapore’s top luxury hotels. Remember to make reservations before going down.
