Jiu Jiang Shao La 九江烧腊 – Popular Roast Meat Stall With Daily Long Queue, At Ghim Moh Food Centre

If you have eaten at Ghim Moh Food Centre before, you will know that Jiu Jiang Shao La (九江烧腊) is one of the most popular stalls here.

This roast meat stall sees a long snaking queue every day. When I went down recently on a Friday at 11am, there were about fifteen people ahead of me in the queue.

When I finally left the stall with my food after thirty minutes, I was amazed to see that the queue had grown to over twenty people!

Menu

The stall sells roast pork, roast duck, and char siew.

Prices are very affordable, starting from just $3 for a basic plate of roast meat rice.

For first timers, I recommend getting the Three Roast Meat Combo Rice (duck, char siew, and pork) which costs just $5.

It is also possible to buy a whole roast duck for $32, half for $16, or one quarter for $12.

Three Roast Meat Combo Rice

This value-for-money dish costs just $5. You can scoop your preferred amount of roast meat sauce from the rice cooker on the counter.

The roast pork was tasty with good fat-to-meat ratio, but the highlight was its crackling rind which had a satisfying crunch and a pleasant sweet-savoury taste.

The roast duck was tender and juicy without any gamey odour at all.

The char siew was fatty with a sweet caramelised taste and pleasant charred aroma.

Overall, this was definitely a satisfying plate of roast meat rice.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that Jiu Jiang Shao La serves up delicious and affordable roast meats, and I can sort of understand why it sees crazy long queues every day. I will try to go early next time to avoid the queue, though I will probably skip the stall if I have to queue for more than half an hour.
