Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa (Bangkok) – A Complete Guide To This Fantastic Japanese Bathhouse!

The wife and I spent a super relaxing day at Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa Thonglor during our holiday in Bangkok. This is truly THE place to go if you want to completely relax your mind and body. Below is my full review of this amazing spa.

Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa Thonglor

Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa Thonglor is a Japanese-style onsen in Bangkok that also offers a variety of massage and spa treatments.

It is the 18th branch of famous Thai spa chain Let’s Relax.

This urban onsen is nestled on the 5th floor of Grande Centre Point Hotel Sukhumvit 55 in Thong Lor.

The wife and I had been wanting to check out this onsen for quite a while. We finally managed to book a session here during our recent Bangkok trip.

Onsen Package Price List

Access to the onsen costs THB700. There is no time limit, though it is recommended that you take breaks to cool down every one hour or so.

As you can see from the list above, there is also a variety of Onsen Spa Packages available.

The wife went for the “Onsen + Aroma Oil Massage (1 hour) + Body Scrub (1 hour)”, while I opted for the “Onsen + 2 hour Thai Massage”.

Make sure you buy the onsen packages online because it is cheaper; the online onsen access ticket costs just THB620 instead of the usual THB700.

In addition, the wife’s onsen package only cost THB2,700 (usual price THB2,850), while my Thai massage package cost THB1,469 (usual price THB1,550).

How to Book

Email confirmation from Let’s Relax Thonglor

1. First, I bought our onsen packages online from Klook.
2. After that, I emailed Let’s Relax Thonglor at lrthonglor@siamwellnessgroup.com to book the date and time.
3. They replied a few hours later to confirm my booking.

Japanese-Style Lobby

On the day of our appointment, we went to Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55 and took the lift to the fifth floor.

Stepping out of the lift, we were greeted by the Let’s Relax Thonglor logo emblazoned on traditional Japanese woodwork.

We entered the spa lobby, which was bright, spacious, and serene. The obligatory Japanese-inspired beige and white colour scheme was definitely a nice contrast to the bustle of downtown Bangkok.

There is also a small snack bar that offers sandwiches, pastries, coffee, tea, and juices.

After registering with the very friendly staff at the lobby counter, we made our way to the gender separated onsens!

Initially I felt a bit lost because it was only my second time visiting an onsen (the first time was over 7 years ago in Hokkaido).

Below are some useful instructions for the benefit of other amateurs like me:

First, I exchanged my footwear for bamboo sandals.

Next, I collected my onsen kit after scanning my RFID wristband (given during registration). The onsen kit contains a Jinbei (Japanese clothing), bath towel, and a small onsen towel.

After that, I went into the changing room, took off all my clothes and underwear, and stuffed everything inside the locker.

Finally, I cast aside any semblance of self-consciousness and strutted towards the onsen with just the small onsen towel in hand.

Note that Let’s Relax Thonglor requires guests to go commando for the onsen; there are NO disposable undies provided.

Remember to keep yourself hydrated – there are many water coolers scattered around the onsen.

Showering Before Onsen

Before entering the onsen pools area, I took a bath at one of the many small Japanese-style bathing cubicles. I sat on a plastic stool while washing myself.

Every cubicle provides premium shampoo, shower gel and conditioner. The water pressure was fantastic and I enjoyed my bath very much.

There are standing showers as well.

My Awesome Onsen Experience

After the bath, I proceeded to the actual onsen pools, which are just beside the bathing section.

The dimly lighted space exudes an air of tranquillity with its bamboo and dark stone setting, complete with an artificial outdoor garden.

To my pleasant surprise, I was the only person in the onsen! I had made the right decision to come down on a Monday at 12pm.

However, other guests started coming in around 20 minutes later.

The onsen features five onsen pools, filled with mineral-rich spring water brought over from the renowned Gero spring in Japan.

I followed the recommended “onsen route” and took turns to soak in the milky-textured Silk Bath (40 degrees), Whirlpool Bath (36 degrees), Soda Bath (38 degrees), famous Gero Hot Spring (42 degrees), and chilling Cold Bath (18 degrees).

I had to literally force myself into the Cold Bath because it was super chilly! But I guess it’s good for closing pores and tightening my skin?

I also spent some time relaxing in the steam room and sauna. These hot rooms were very clean and comfy, unlike some other mouldy saunas I’ve visited before.

The onsen even provides ice-cold towels, which were fantastic for cooling myself down after soaking in the hot baths.

In total, I spent about one hour in the onsen and it was a wonderful experience. Both my body and mind were in a complete state of relaxation afterwards!

Post Onsen Rooms

Cool Down Room

After our onsen experiences, the wife and I met up to go to the post onsen rooms together. First, we went to the Cool Down Room, which is a cold room with a temperature of just 12 degree celsius.

It was definitely nice to sit here and cool down for a while. However, it is just a simple room lined with wooden benches and we decided to leave after around 5 minutes.

Hot Stonebed Bath Room

Next, we dropped by the Hot Stonebed Bath Room, where you are supposed to lie on the heated natural stone floor (44 degrees celsius). This is supposed to let you perspire and purge toxins from your body.

The wife and I decided to skip this room because it didn’t exactly look very inviting or comfortable. But if you are interested you can check out the stonebed instructions.

Relaxing Room

Chilling out with the wife

Finally, we went to the Relaxing Room. As the name suggests, this is a quiet tatami mat room lined with comfy mattresses for guests to relax.

There are clean towels provided to spread on the mattresses, if you wish.

The air is kept clean and fresh by air purifiers.

The room is extremely quiet and you are not supposed to talk inside.

This was definitely our favourite post onsen room! We spent about 20 minutes here relaxing, using our phones and taking a quick shut-eye.

After spending some time in the Relaxing Room, we went for our respective two-hour spa sessions.

Aroma Oil Massage (1 Hour) + Body Scrub (1 Hour)

Massage oil samples

Scrub samples

As mentioned, the wife had the Aroma Oil Massage (1 hour) + Body Scrub (1 hour).

Before the treatment, she had to choose her massage oil. Let’s Relax offers six types of oils: Green Tea, Lavender, Siamese Blend, Relaxing, Sweet Bloom, and Lemongrass.

After smelling the samples and reading the descriptions, the wife went with Lavender.

Likewise for the body scrub, she had to choose one scrub from a selection of eight recipes: Green Tea + Salt Scrub, Luffa, Black Sesame + Honey, Aloe Vera, Yogurt with Thai Mud, Mandarin Orange, Coffee, and LuLu.

The wife chose Mandarin Orange, which is suitable for normal skin and is supposed to have whitening effects.

After that, she was led to her spa treatment room, which was private, spacious and clean. It also had a locker and bathing facilities.

According to the wife, her therapist was surprisingly good at relieving the aches and pains on her body during the aroma oil massage.

The scrub was also a pleasant and soothing session, where the therapist spent around 45 minutes applying the scrub. The remaining 15 minutes was spent resting on the massage bed.

Note that guests who opt for the aroma oil massage package are not allowed to return to the onsen after their treatment.

Thai Massage (2 Hours)

As for me, I went for the 2 hour Thai Massage.

The massage room was very clean, spacious and peaceful. It was a very relaxing session and I actually fell asleep halfway.

On the whole the massage was definitely quite enjoyable, though I felt the masseuse could have used a little more pressure in her rubs sometimes.

Post Spa Treats

After our respective spa/ massage sessions, we were led to the lobby where we were served hot tea and delicious Mango Sticky Rice. This was a nice touch.

The lobby also has a small refreshments bar which offers complimentary Thai egg roll cookies and ice-cold lemon-infused water.

We happily helped ourselves to these snacks too.

Let’s Relax Aromatherapy Products

There is a small aromatherapy shop in the lobby. The wife was interested in the essential oils and a helpful Let’s Relax staff patiently attended to her. In the end she bought a bottle of Lavender essential oil for THB550. We are currently using it for our bedroom and it smells really relaxing and pleasant (and similar to the Let’s Relax lounge).

Conclusion

On the whole, Let’s Relax Onsen and Spa Thonglor is a fantastic urban spa that offers a high quality onsen experience and premium spa treatments at very affordable prices. All the staff were also very friendly and polite. In total, the wife and I spent around five hours here (inclusive of spa treatments). Let’s Relax Thonglor certainly surpassed my expectations, and I can’t wait to go back again the next time I’m in Bangkok. This branch is quite popular, so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. We booked our packages 5 days in advance. You can buy your onsen packages here.

Thank you for a great review. I’ve wanted to try one without going to Japan, so this looks like it will be perfect. Is the masseuse clean, or did she try give happy ending like most massage therapists do in Thailand?

Hi Samuel, you’re welcome! Hope you enjoy your onsen experience. Yes my masseuse was perfectly clean. Actually, all the massage parlours I visited in Bangkok (Let’s Relax, Panpuri, Number 1 Massage, Lek Massage, etc) did not offer dodgy services. I hope this allays your concern =)
