G7 Sinma Claypot Live Bull Frog Porridge – Delicious Bull Frog Porridge At Bukit Timah

I have been visiting G7 Sinma Claypot Live Bull Frog Porridge for several years now, but I never got around to writing a review for this popular restaurant along Upper Bukit Timah Road. If you are a fan of frog porridge, this place is a must-visit! Note that this restaurant is NOT related to G7 Live Seafood Restaurant in Geylang.

G7 Sinma Claypot Live Bull Frog Porridge (Bukit Timah)

G7 Sinma Claypot Live Bull Frog Porridge is a Chinese restaurant in Bukit Timah that specialises in claypot frog porridge. The menu also offers a variety of zi char dishes.

It is a no-frills joint where customers dine on wooden tables and chairs. The restaurant is located along Cheong Chin Nam Road, a bustling thoroughfare that is home to plenty of other eateries.

Main Menu

Most people visit G7 Sinma (Bukit Timah) to eat the delicious frog porridge. Normally, the wife and I will order the Buy 4, Free 3 ($30) option, which means that we get seven bull frogs. We will pair this with one pot of Porridge ($3).

It is possible to choose spicy or non-spicy flavours for the frogs. We will usually go with spicy for 4 frogs and non-spicy for 3 frogs. The spicy and non-spicy frogs are served in separate claypots.

The restaurant also serves a variety of other tasty dishes. I’ve tried the Stir-Fried “Si Ji Dou” ($10), Prawn Omelet ($8) and Bak Kut Teh ($6) before and they were all quite delicious.

Buy 4, Free 3 and Porridge

The Buy 4, Free 3 ($30) set portion is just nice for the wife and me. I’m quite a big eater though, so if you have a smaller appetite you might want to order a smaller portion.

The frogs are served with the luscious gravy in a claypot. The gravy is made of cornstarch, soy sauce, and spring onions. It has a sweet and savoury taste and is really aromatic.

The bull frog legs are cooked in the claypot which helps to preserves their savoury taste. The meat is tender, juicy and full of flavour. Compared to other bull frogs we’ve tried before, the G7 Sinma frogs are really fresh and have no gamey odour at all.

The non-spicy gravy is delicious, but personally I enjoy eating the frogs with the spicy gravy more. It has a feisty flavour that is not overwhelming, and tastes super good with the frog legs and porridge.

The Porridge ($3) is always served hot and tastes awesome with the gravy and bull frog legs. It is cooked Cantonese-style, meaning that it has a really thick and gooey texture. I’m a Teochew so I’m usually not a fan of this type of porridge, but I must say it goes perfectly with the bull frogs.

Stir-Fried “Si Ji Dou”

The wife and I like ordering the Stir-Fried “Si Ji Dou” ($10) because this dish goes very well with the porridge. The “Si Ji Dous” (string beans) are savoury and slightly crunchy.

Prawn Omelet

The Prawn Omelet ($8) is a simple but tasty side dish. We order this dish when we are feeling hungry and are worried that we will not feel full after eating the frog legs.

Conclusion

The wife and I have been visiting G7 Sinma Claypot Live Bull Frog Porridge in Bukit Timah frequently over the years to get our frog porridge fix. It is one of our favourite restaurants in Singapore. It can get quite busy during peak hours, so I recommend calling to make reservations before going down.

The information stated is wrong. I called the restaurant for the islandwide delivery but to my surprise they are not under the same company. The islandwide delivery is only for Geylang. And the person said they are not linked at all. Menu is also different.

I just searched to order for G7 and called the number which belonged to Geylang, and was told it is a different owner from the Bukit Timah restaurant. Due to distance, I chose to order from Bukit Timah outlet and picked up myself ($58.95). But to my surprise the bill included charges for the takeaway box – first time ever seeing this kind of charges from a restaurant.

Thanks for your feedback Andrew. How much did they charge for the takeaway box?
