Restaurant Weidstübli (Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland) – Fantastic Hidden Gem Serving Delicious Swiss Food

My favourite restaurant in Switzerland is Restaurant Weidstübli, a traditional Swiss restaurant located in Lauterbrunnen. It’s quite hard to beat a restaurant that’s located in the middle of a lush valley, surrounded by majestic rock faces and elegant waterfalls!

Restaurant Weidstübli

Restaurant Weidstübli is a homely Swiss restaurant located on the grounds of the beautiful Camping Jungfrau campsite in Lauterbrunnen.

The restaurant is known for its delicious and affordable Swiss foods. Other than Swiss specialties, it also serves a variety of comfort food.

The wife and I came here after visiting the Staubbach Falls, which is just a three-minute walk away.

Looking through the menu, I saw a variety of typical Swiss specialties such as Rosti, Cheese Fondue, Raclette, and Schnitzel.

The menu also offers comfort food such as pasta, burgers, pizzas, steaks, soups, and salads. There are vegetarian options and a children menu too.

Drinks wise, there are wines, beers, cocktails, soft drinks, and hot beverages. If you like drinking beer, the Rugenbrau is a popular beer brewed locally in Interlaken.

I was very impressed by the large variety of food and drinks available. And compared to other Swiss restaurants we visited, the food at Restaurant Weidstuebli were more reasonably-priced.

A popular dish is the Älplermaccaroni (CHF 12.50), which is basically mac and cheese with potatoes, onions, ham, and apple sauce.

The Rahmschnitzel (CHF 24.80) is a popular Swiss dish that comprises pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce and vegetables.

And of course, you can’t go wrong with the Weidstuebli Rosti (CHF 18.90) or classic Cheese Fondue (CHF 19).

Homely Swiss Restaurant With Cozy Atmosphere

Happy to have discovered this great restaurant

Pretty outdoor dining area

Outdoor flame heaters to keep customers warm

The restaurant is located near Staubbach Falls

Restaurant Weidstuebli is a quaint cottage-style restaurant, designed in traditional Swiss style. It exudes a rustic charm with its warm wood furnishings and soft orange lights.

The restaurant had a homey and welcoming vibe that set Raevian and me at ease. After a full day of exploring the Jungfrau region, it felt wonderful to have a relaxing evening here.

If you choose to dine at the outdoor seating area, you can even get a view of the Staubbach Falls in the distance. There are two large flame heaters to keep you warm. However, the wife and I decided to dine in the warm interior of the restaurant.

The staff were very polite and helpful. They spoke fluent English so I had no problems communicating with them.

Rahmschnitzel

Since I had already tried cheese fondue the day before, I decided to order another Swiss specialty: the Rahmschnitzel (CHF 24.80)

When the dish arrived, I was blown away by how huge the portion was! You can get an idea of how big it is by checking out the above picture where I placed my iPhone 8 plus beside the plate. I think it can feed two people easily.

The Rahmschnitzel consisted of a large chunk of pork schnitzel doused in creamy mushroom sauce. It was paired with some vegetables and a peach topped with whipped cream.

The dish came with a choice of three side dishes: French Fries, Rosti or Pasta. I went with the Rosti.

The pork schnitzel was very tender and juicy, and went nicely with the luscious mushroom sauce. The savoury rosti tasted great too.

The vegetables and peach provided balance, though I didn’t really know what to make of the whipped cream.

This was a scrumptious and satisfying dish, but I didn’t manage to finish it because the portion was simply too huge.

Spaghetti Aglio e Olio

The wife went with the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio (CHF 15.80), with added bacon and mushrooms (CHF 2). The chef was nice enough to accommodate her special request.

It was served warm and I could smell the wonderful aroma of the dish once it was placed on the table.

Once again, the portion was huge!

This simple but tantalising dish comprised spaghetti with bacon slices, mushrooms, sauteed garlic, and chopped scallions.

The wife obviously couldn’t finish it so I had to eat quite a bit for her.

The spaghetti had great bite, and I really enjoyed eating it with the savoury bacons and mushrooms. On the whole, this was a very well-cooked and delicious dish.

Panaché Beer

I asked the staff whether they had any fruity beers, and she recommended the Panaché (CHF 3.80). This is a “mixed beer” made using beer and lemonade. It was very light and refreshing, with pleasant fruity scents and a slight tangy flavour.

It was perfect for washing down the copious amounts of food I had eaten. And it was really affordable too!

Conclusion

With its excellent food quality, wonderful atmosphere and affordable prices, it is no wonder that Restaurant Weidstuebli ranks as the top Lauterbrunnen restaurant on TripAdvisor. This was the best place the wife and I ate at in Switzerland.

Do take note that the portion is huge, but I believe the restaurant can pack the food if you can’t finish it.

The restaurant is very popular during peak season, so it’s best to call and make reservations before going down. We visited during low season in April, so the restaurant was not very packed.
