Signature KOI Bubble Tea Outlet Reopens At Jewel Changi Airport With Safe Distancing Measures

I was strolling around the new Jewel Changi Airport after lunch when I spotted Signature KOI. I was curious to check it out because this KOI shop looked quite different from the usual outlets. Update (23 May 2020): Signature Koi has reopened after shutting down temporarily during the Circuit Breaker period. This was confirmed by their Facebook post.

Signature KOI

Signature KOI is a brand new KOI concept store located at level one of Jewel Changi Airport. This is a dine-in store where customers can sit down to enjoy their drinks and pastries.

The store’s menu is unique to this outlet and is completely different from usual KOI shops. It offers both drinks and pastries.

Signature KOI is open 24 hours, so you can satisfy your bubble tea craving even if you are visiting Jewel Changi late at night.

The unique menu offers a variety of bubble tea drinks, fruit teas, honey-based drinks, macchiato drinks, and specialty brews.

Some of the interesting drinks that caught my eye were the Boba Brown Sugar Milk Tea ($6.90), Ice Cream Black Tea ($4.90), Lemon Earl Grey Black Tea ($4.90), Matcha Macchiato ($4.90), Honey Floral Green Tea ($4.90) and Signature Cafe Macchiato ($5.90).

You can add toppings like Golden Bubble, Ice Cream, Konjac Jelly, and the limited Boba Pearls and Mini Bubble.

For the specialty brews, you can choose from four premium teas: Jade (Alisan Mountain), Rose Quartz (Rose Oolong), Amber (Hong Xiu Black Tea), and Topaz (Tung Ting Oolong).

For a sweet and refreshing tea, go for Jade. If you prefer something with a heavier flavour, go for Topaz. All cold brews cost $4.90, and hot brews cost $6.30.

For the pastries, there is a selection of cakes like Jewel Berry ($5.90) and Hazelnut Royale ($7.90). There is also a variety of macarons with flavours like Earl Grey, Lychee, Mint and Vanilla.

Outdoor Seating Area

Signature KOI has a spacious outdoor seating area filled with comfy upholstered chairs and small round tables.

You can also sit at padded benches placed with plush cushions, or at the counter seats directly beside the KOI bar.

I saw many customers sitting at this brightly-lit space enjoying their KOI drinks while chatting with friends. This definitely felt like a nice place to chill out and relax after exploring the huge airport mall.

Incidentally, Signature KOI is located directly next to Starbucks, and the seating arrangements were slightly disorienting. As a result, I wrongly sat at the Starbucks area and only discovered my blunder when leaving.

Boba Brown Sugar Milk Tea

Because I was feeling quite full after eating the delicious ice creams from Emack and Bolio’s, I decided to order just one large Boba Brown Sugar Milk Tea ($7.90).

The milk tea had a very smooth and milky texture. It had the distinct flavour of brown sugar, but was not overwhelmingly sweet. The boba pearls were sweet and chewy.

The drink had the signature “strips” created by brown sugar syrup, though they were not very obvious or striking.

Compared to Tiger Sugar, the KOI brown sugar milk tea was not as rich and luscious. It will suit people who prefer less sweet drinks. Personally I still prefer Tiger Sugar.

Do note that the drinks are not sealed. Therefore, please do not turn it upside down and shake it because the drink will spill out.

Conclusion

Signature KOI is an interesting concept store that should appeal to most Singaporeans (who doesn’t love KOI?). The outlet opens 24 hours so you can pop by any time. The brown sugar milk tea I tried was nice but quite expensive. I will probably give it a miss next time, and check out the pastries and premium specialty brews instead.
