Emack & Bolio’s Singapore – Irresistibly Pretty Ice Cream at Jewel Changi Airport with Outrageous Flavours

Located at the new Jewel Changi Airport, Emack & Bolio’s Singapore is an ice cream parlour known for its delicious and irresistibly pretty ice creams with fun outrageous flavours. Walking around the airport mall, the wife and I found no lack of wonderful eateries. However, it was definitely Emack & Bolio’s that gave us the most Instagram-worthy pictures. This is my full review of the ice cream parlour. Update 17 November 2019: Emack & Bolio’s has opened a second outlet at Suntec City Mall, #02-306, West Wing (Beside Ding Tai Fung)!

Emack & Bolio’s

Featured in A Korean Odyssey

Emack & Bolio’s is a Boston ice cream shop that was founded in 1975 by Bob Rook, a music lawyer and self-proclaimed hippie.

The shop uses premium ingredients to create their ice creams, and do not use dyes or milk from genetically hormone-induced cows.

Emack & Bolio’s started out in a basement as a place for hippie musicians to chill out and enjoy ice creams after their gigs, during the thriving rock ‘n roll music scene of the 1970s.

The ice cream joint was eventually named after two homeless men whom Rook did pro bono work for.

Today, Emack & Bolio’s is a global ice cream chain with outlets across USA, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, and now Singapore.

It became really popular in Asia after being featured in the K-drama A Korean Odyssey (Hwayugi) as General Dong’s (Sung Hyuk) ice cream joint.

I’ve got to admit I was pretty curious to check out the ice cream after seeing Son Oh-gong (Lee Seung-gi) and Samjang (Oh Yeon-seo) enjoying them.

The outlet at Jewel Changi Airport is Emack & Bolio’s first branch in Singapore.

The cones look so delicious!

Here’s how to order your Emack & Bolio’s ice cream!

1. Choose the number of Scoops
You can choose Junior Scoop ($6), Single Scoop ($7), Double Scoop ($11), or Triple Scoop ($15). I went with Single, though I regretted this afterwards. Instead, I recommend going for the Double or Triple Scoop because you can try more flavours and your ice cream will look even more Instagrammable.

2. Choose your Cone
You can go for the free Sugar Cone, the Waffle Cone ($1), the Chocolate Cone ($2.50) or the Marshmallow Cone ($3.50).

The latter two are made by dipping waffle cones into melted chocolate / marshmallow, and then covering them with toppings like sprinkles, oreos, and fruity pebbles. Yummy!

Even though they are more expensive, I recommend going for the Chocolate Cones or Marshmallow Cones because they are really pretty and taste delicious too. In fact, they look so good I felt like I could just eat them on their own.

Some of the popular cones include Fruitys Pebbles, Froot Loops, Oreo Marshmallow, and Rainbow Sprinkle.

3. Finally, Choose your Ice Cream Flavours!
I was really impressed by the diverse variety of funky ice cream flavours available! Below are a few tantalising ones:

“S’Moreo” – Vanilla with chunks of Oreos, Marshmallows, and Chocolate Swirls
“Chocolate Addiction” – Chocolate with Chocolate Chips and Fudge Chunks
“Grasshopper Pie” – Cream De Menthe with Chocolate Chips and Oreos
“Cosmic Crunch” – Vanilla with Caramel, Chocolate Chips, Nuts, Toffee, and Cookies Pieces

And for the rockers:

“Deep Purple Chip” – Black Raspberry with White and Dark Chocolate Chips (inspired by Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple)

Chocolate Addiction with Froot Loops

After looking through the menu for a while, I ordered a single scoop of Chocolate Addiction ($7) and paired it with the Froot Loops ($3.50) cone.

This flavour comprises chocolate ice cream filled with chocolate chips and fudge chunks. I am a chocolate AND fudge fan so I knew I had to get this flavour.

The ice cream had a smooth texture that was very nice to bite into. And I really enjoyed the dense chocolaty flavour punctuated by the crunch of sweet chocolate chips and tasty fudge chunks.

It was complimented nicely by the Floots Loops cone, which was very sweet and crunchy.

S’Moreo with Oreo Marshmallow

The wife went with a single scoop of S’Moreo ($7) ice cream on top of a Oreo Marshmallow ($3.50) cone.

This flavour is created using vanilla ice cream added with chunks of oreos, marshmallows, and chocolate swirls.

I tasted a bit of the ice cream, and was hooked from the first bite!

The luscious ice cream had a velvety texture that felt really good in my mouth.

The vanilla ice cream combined with the oreos chunks, marshmallows, and chocolate swirls to create a perfect blend of rich, creamy, and sweet flavours. The lovely combination romanced my taste buds and left me wanting more.

Together with the scrumptious Oreo Marshmallow cone, this is one ice cream that will be extremely satisfying for anyone with a sweet tooth.

However, if you do not like eating sweet stuff, you might find it too saccharine.

Conclusion

I enjoyed the ice creams at Emack & Bolio’s Singapore very much. Not only are they super Instagram-worthy, they are delicious as well. The staff were also very helpful and friendly when I asked for recommendations on the ice cream flavours.

And since I am a rockstar-wannabe who grew up learning the licks of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, etc, it was pretty cool to check out an ice cream joint with rock and roll roots (ok I think I’ve just revealed my age).

On the whole this is a great place to visit and enjoy some awesome ice creams after your lunch or dinner at Jewel Changi Airport.
