Press Butter Sand – Tokyo Butter Cookies with Caramel and Cream Fillings, Made with Fresh Hokkaido Butter

During our recent trip to Tokyo, we made sure to buy the popular Press Butter Sand butter cookies from Tokyo Station. These are really popular in Japan now and we were really happy to get our hands on them! Also read: New York Perfect Cheese – Tokyo Cheese Sweets Created by World’s Top Pastry Chefs

Press Butter Sand

Press Butter Sand is a popular cookies shop located inside Tokyo Station. It sells delicious butter cookies with lots of butter cream and butter caramel fillings layered in between two cookies. They are made using fresh Hokkaido butter.

While queuing for the cookies, we even got to see the cookies pressing process through the glass window.

Press Butter Sand is actually quite new to Japan, with the shop opening recently in April 2017.

This cookies shop is owned by the Japanese company BAKE. Yes, this is the same company that brought in those crazily popular cheese tarts to Singapore in ION over two years ago.

Luxurious Butter Cookies with Butter Cream and Caramel Fillings

Press Butter Sand allows customers to buy individual cookies (170 Yen) too, so we decided to buy one to try on the spot.

The cookie comes in a very nice white wrapper, and after tearing it open I quickly took one bite of the butter cookie.

It tasted really good! After biting the cookie in half, I could clearly see the two tantalising layers of butter caramel and butter cream.

I enjoyed savouring the butter caramel which was sweet but not overwhelming. The butter cream tasted great too, with a fluffy texture that seemed to melt in my mouth. The crunchy cookies have a nice mellow butter flavour, sandwiching the fillings perfectly.

Prices

Currently, the cookies are sold individually (170 Yen), and in boxes of five (1,000 Yen), nine (1,710 Yen), fifteen (2,850 Yen), and eighteen (3,700 Yen).

Directions to Press Butter Sand

Press Butter Sand is located near the Marunouchi South Exit of Tokyo Station. We had some difficulties finding the shop because Tokyo Station is huge.

We had to ask for directions from the subway staff at the information counters, as well as random retail staff, using a picture of the Press Butter Sand shop.

Luckily, most of the Japanese locals were quite helpful and we eventually found the shop.

Conclusion

We are so glad to have discovered these delicious Press Butter Sand cookies! They make for a wonderful souvenir from Japan, and we bought quite a few boxes. We went on a Thursday at around 1.30pm and there were about 15 people in the queue; we waited for about 15 minutes. Make sure you check out our video review of these delicious cookies too!

Hi Bebian! You can search for them online. Hopefully there are some distributors in your country that import these biscuits for sale.
