New York Perfect Cheese – Tokyo Cheese Sweets Created by World’s Top Pastry Chefs, Sold Out Daily By Noon

We went to New York Perfect Cheese at Tokyo Station on a weekday afternoon, and were mentally prepared to queue for this trending cheese snack in Tokyo. However, we did not expect that the snack would already be sold out by the time we went! We had to go back early morning the next day to get our hands on them. New York Perfect Cheese

New York Perfect Cheese is a popular cheese sweets shop at Tokyo Station that opened in March 2017.

It sells three types of cheese snacks:

1. Langues de Chat
2. Maple Cheese
3. Cheese Escargot

These cheese sweets were invented by New York Perfect Cheese in collaboration with three famous pastry chefs: former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses, Japan’s first cheese Chevalier Murase Miyuki and Meilleur Ouvrier de France (MOF) Cheese Craftsman Rodolphe Le Meunier.

Using cheese from all over the world, this team came up with lots of prototypes in order to determine the optimal temperature, humidity and baking method for the snacks.

And what they have produced, are delicious New York style cheese sweets that blend unique flavours of various cheeses from different parts of the world!

Sold out Daily By Noon

New York Perfect Cheese is currently very popular in Tokyo, and the most popular Langues de Chat was already sold out by the time we went on a Thursday at around 1.30pm. Only the Maple Cheese and Cheese Escargot were still available. We had to go back the next day at 8am and join the queue of about 10 people to get the Langues de Chat!

Langues de Chat

Among the three cheese snacks, the Langues de Chat is the most popular.

It comprises a crisp biscuit that blends in gouda cheese, which is a type of cheese made from cow’s milk.

Inside the biscuit, there is a block of white chocolate surrounded by Danish cheddar cheese.

“Langues de Chat” is actually French for “cat’s tongue”, which is the name for a type of cookie that is long and flat (like a cat’s tongue).

After trying this cheese sweet, I can definitely understand why it’s the most popular.

The cheese biscuit was really crisp and crunchy to the bite, with the distinct fragrance of cheese coming out as I bit into it.

And as I bit in further, I was treated to the delicate sweetness of the white chocolate.

And to complete the experience, there was the bed of velvety cheddar cheese that provided another layer of pleasant cheese aroma.

On the whole, this was truly a harmonious blend of rich cheese flavours that even non-cheese fans (like myself) will love.

Maple Cheese

The Maple Cheese is a cheesecake made with maple syrup and Hokkaido Mascarpone cream cheese.

Even though it is not as popular as the Langues de Chat, this cheese snack definitely deserves mention too.

It has a soft and fluffy texture that feels really good to bite into. Taste wise it is sweet, cheesy and a little tangy at the same time.

The chewy maple syrup in the centre adds a nice sweet taste to the overall flavour. On the whole we really like this snack too!

Directions to New York Perfect Cheese

New York Perfect Cheese is located near the Marunouchi South Exit of Tokyo Station, directly opposite Press Butter Sand.

It was quite hard to find the shop because Tokyo Station is big. We asked for directions from the station staff and retail staff, and eventually found the shop.

Conclusion

Japanese are usually fans of any food or snacks connected with the word “New York”, but New York Perfect Cheese is the real deal. The Langues de Chat is one awesome cheese snack that even non-cheese fans will love. It contains the perfect blend of delicious cheese flavours from all over the world, packed in a small nifty piece. I also like that it has a long expiry period of about one month, so that we can buy many pieces and enjoy them slowly. This is unlike Tokyo Banana which expires really fast. If you are planning to buy this snack, make sure you go to the shop early because the Langues de Chat is usually sold out by noon!
