Feima Minced Meat Fishball Noodle 胖妈鱼圆肉脞面 – Super Delicious Fishball Noodles at Boon Lay Market (PERMANENTLY CLOSED)

Recently, I stumbled upon Feima Minced Meat Fishball Noodle (胖妈鱼圆肉脞面) at Boon Lay Market, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the noodles at this stall tasted! I liked the dish so much that I went back several times to eat it again and also try out the other dishes offered by the stall. Feima is permanently closed and has been replaced by another fishball noodle stall.

Feima Minced Meat Fishball Noodle (胖妈鱼圆肉脞面)

Feima Minced Meat Fishball Noodle is a hawker stall at Boon Lay Market that sells four types of noodles dish according to their menu: Minced Meat Fishball Noodle, Fishball Kway Teow Noodle, Minced Meat Mushroom Noodle, and Laksa. From what I observed, the stall is manned by two middle-aged ladies, with one doing the cooking while the other takes orders.

Minced Meat Mushroom Noodle (Dry)

The very first dish I tried at the stall was the dry Minced Meat Mushroom Noodle ($4), with my favourite mee kia (thin noodles). To be honest, my expectations were not very high because this is quite a discreet stall in Boon Lay Market, and it usually doesn’t have any queue at all. But boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. The noodles were cooked perfectly with great texture and just the right amount of bite. They had also absorbed the flavours of the sauces and ingredients nicely. The braised mushrooms and button mushrooms had a pleasant sweet-savoury taste along with a very smooth texture. The minced meat completed this wonderful dish with its fresh and chewy taste. While none of the ingredients really stood out on their own, they blended together perfectly to form a bowl of scrumptious noodles with perfectly-balanced flavours. This was one satisfying dish!

Minced Meat Fishball Noodle (Soup)

After my great experience the first time round, I decided to go back and check out the Minced Meat Fishball Noodle ($4). This time, I ordered the noodles with soup and thin bee hoon (rice vermicelli). I was a little worried that the dish would not match my previous great experience, but my worries were unfounded because the noodles tasted great! The soup was very fragrant with a pleasant light savoury flavour. And as usual, all the ingredients were extremely fresh and tasty. I especially enjoyed the fishballs (all five of them) which were very chewy and bouncy. I finished the entire dish in a hurry, leaving just a few drops of soup left in the bowl.

Laksa

Compared to the previous two awesome dishes, the Laksa ($4) was a slightly more subdued affair. The laksa gravy was definitely savoury and tasty, but I felt the flavour could have been stronger. That said, the tau pok (fried beancurd puff), fish cakes, and hardboiled egg in the gravy were all very fresh and tasty. And there was a generous portion of cockles which I enjoyed and finished every single one (don’t judge). On the whole, this might not have been great laksa but it was definitely quite satisfying too.

Conclusion

I am really happy to have discovered this hidden gem at Boon Lay Market. Feima Minced Meat Fishball Noodle serves up perfectly cooked noodles with extremely fresh and tasty ingredients. It is now one of the my top favourite stalls in Boon Lay Market! The stall opens super early from 5am daily, so if you are ever in the area early looking for breakfast, this is the perfect place.

Hi Robin, thanks for letting me know. I dropped by recently after seeing your message and was sad to see that the stall has indeed closed. It has been replaced by another fishball noodle stall, though I have yet to try it. Hopefully it is as good!
