La Maison Smith Cafe

La Maison Smith Cafe (The Smith House Cafe) is a cafe chain in Quebec City. It is known for its fine chocolates and specialty coffees. It also serves a variety of delicious pastries, desserts and sandwiches. Currently, it has four branches. We visited the branch at Place Royale, which is the first branch of the chain.

Place Royale is the place where French pioneers first established themselves in 1608. The building which the cafe is housed in was inhabited by French settlers until 1796, when it was bought by Mr Charles Smith. From then, it has been known as La Maison Smith. In 2013, the cafe took over the building, and La Maison Smith Cafe was borned.

Quaint Cafe with Serene Ambience

The quaint cafe exudes an old-world charm with its wood furnishings and vintage hanging lamps, complete with old pictures of Quebec City pioneers lining the walls. The counter staff could speak English and was quite friendly to us. After getting our food, we settled down at a table by the window to watch the falling snow over our macarons ($1.70) and hot cup of chocolate ($4). It was the perfect way to spend the morning.

Conclusion

With its great food and ambience, it is not surprising that La Maison Smith has many rave reviews online. We enjoyed our meal here very much.
