BeaverTails Old Quebec – Delicious Fried Pastry in Quebec City, Canada!

Visiting Quebec City, we knew we had to check out BeaverTails, a popular Canadian pastry chain famous for its fried dough pastries shaped like (yup you guessed it) beavers’ tails. This is one of our favourite places to eat in Quebec City.

BeaverTails Old Quebec (Queues de Castor Vieux Québec)

BeaverTails pastries was started about 40 years ago when Grant and Pam Hooker started selling their delicious fried dough made using their family recipe. The first store was opened in Ottawa in 1978. Today, it has expanded to 140 branches in 5 countries. In Quebec, the pastry chain is known as “Queues de Castor”. We visited the BeaverTails Old Quebec branch (Queues de Castor Vieux Québec).

Chocolate Hazelnut

It was a little difficult to choose a flavour because all of them sounded so good! Maple Flavoured Spread, Skor Cheesecake, Cinnamon and Sugar, Cookies and Vanilla Icing.. you get the drift. Finally, we decided to order the Chocolate Hazelnut ($5.44). This was definitely a safe option; I cannot really imagine “chocolate hazelnut” not tasting good. The fried dough was prepared on the spot and served to us piping-hot shortly. True enough, the chocolate hazelnut was sweet and luscious, going nicely with the hot and crispy fried dough. I swallowed my first mouthful in a hurry and quickly went for another bite.

Apple Cinnamon

Raevian had the Apple Cinnamon ($6.09) flavour. This was a treat too. The apple cinnamon had a sweet and tangy flavour that was rich but not overwhelming. And together with the hot fried dough, it tasted wonderful. If I had to choose between the two flavours, I would have to say that the Apple Cinnamon edges out.

Conclusion

We are happy to have tried the delicious fried pastries from BeaverTails Old Quebec. We visited during winter and it was super enjoyable to eat the hot and crispy sweet pastry in the cold weather. This branch is conveniently located in Old Quebec, making it a great spot for tourists to visit. Hopefully one day we can go back to try out the other flavours!
