Wildfire Chicken & Burgers Opens at NAFA – Serves Binchotan Fired Gourmet Burgers & Fried Chicken

I was researching online for western food delivery options recently when I came across Wildfire Chicken & Burgers. Their burgers looked really good so I decided to check it out.

Wildfire Chicken & Burgers is a local burger joint known for their premium burgers that are grilled over Japanese Binchotan charcoal fire.

They use double-ventilated INKA ovens which generate heats in excess of 750 degrees, allowing superior charring and creating the signature smokey flavours that Wildfire burgers are known for.

The bistro also serves fried chicken, and only uses chickens that are grain fed and cage-free. The chickens are very fresh because they are delivered daily in the morning and are never frozen.

Wildfire first opened at Evans Road in 2015, before going on to open two more branches at 313 Somerset and Science Park Drive.

After a brief hiatus in 2019, they reopened under a new management team in June 2020 at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) campus.

It wasn’t too difficult to locate the bistro, which faces Bencoolen Street and is located in NAFA Campus 1.

The interior is styled in an industrial chic vibe featuring elegant furnishings, white brick walls and raw cement flooring.

The counter seats along the glassfront are great for people watching while indulging in your Wildfire burgers.

The spotlights and red curtains at the back of the restaurant reminded me of a theatrical stage – a nod to their location in an arts institution.

Service was surprisingly good – the female cashier was friendly and patiently answered my queries about the menu. And my food was served in around five minutes, which was impressive.

Burgers – If it’s your first time visiting, go for the Classic 001 Cheeseburger ($9 for single patty, $13 for double patty) which is made from USDA Certified Black Angus Beef Patty.

You may also want to check out the Truffled Mushroom Burger ($12/$16) or the SRF Wagyu Burger ($13/$18) which comes with Snake River Farm Wagyu Beef.

The only non-beef burger is The Eggstarter ($8), which consists of Butter Folded Eggs, American Cheese, and Caramelised Onion.

Fried Chicken – This is Wildfire’s other signature item! It is sold in one piece ($4.50), three pieces ($12), or 10 pieces ($38).

Side dishes – Shoestring Fries ($5), Truffled Parmesan Fries ($9), and Golden Chicken Nuggets (6pc for $6, 9pc for $8, 20pc for $15).

Burnt Cheesecakes – This trending dessert goes for $6 per slice and $48 for an 8-inch whole cake.

Drinks – There is a variety of interesting selections like the Coca Cola Signature Mixers, Bootstrap Cold Brew Coffees, and Bootstrap Cold Brew Teas.

Classic 001 Cheeseburger

I ordered the single patty Classic 001 Cheeseburger ($9), which is made from USDA Certified Black Angus Beef Patty, American Cheese, Caramelised Onion, Gherkin (pickles), Master Sauce, Chipotle Mayonnaise, and Brioche Bun.

The brioche buns were warm and fluffy, sandwiching the perfectly charred patty which was juicy and tender with a rich beefy flavour. There was also a pleasant smokiness in every bite.

The pickles added a refreshing and tangy crunch, while the heap of caramelised onions provided that toasty-sweet aftertaste.

The umami flavours of the melted cheese and sauces completed this gourmet burger experience.

If you are not a fan of intense flavours, you may find this burger to be slightly too salty. I was perfectly fine with the strong taste though.

Fried Chicken

I also tried their Fried Chicken ($4.50), which came highly recommended by the staff.

In addition to the satisfying crunch of the fried skin, juicy tenderness of the meat, and the rich greasy-savoury flavours, the fried chicken also had a distinct sweet taste.

You can tell that they use a combination of herbs and spices to produce this sweetness, which permeated both the fried batter and the chicken meat.

My guess is that some people will like this unique flavour but others may still prefer the usual fried chicken taste. Case in point, I enjoyed it but the wife was not a fan.

Golden Chicken Nuggets

The Golden Chicken Nuggets ($6 for six pieces) were good! They were served hot and emitted a small puff of steam when I tore the meat apart.

These nuggets were not the usual CP or McDonald’s standard – they were firm and juicy with a “real” meaty flavour. I wished I had ordered nine pieces instead!

You get to choose from one of three sauces: Nacho Cheese, Chipotle Mayo, or Japanese Curry Mayo. I went with the Japanese Curry Mayo which was savoury with a light feistiness.

It is possible to buy additional sauces for $1 each.
