Sim’s Ngoh Hiang – Hawker Stall Sells Traditional Handmade Ngoh Hiang, Islandwide Delivery Available

During the circuit breaker period, many enterprising Singaporeans started selling homemade ngoh hiangs online, and one of those startups is Sim’s Ngoh Hiang.

Sim’s Ngoh Hiang is a new hawker stall at Crawford Lane that sells traditional handmade ngoh hiang, fried beehoon, and fried chicken wings. They also offer islandwide delivery.

According to their website, their ngoh hiangs and chicken wings are made using a secret family recipe handed down from the owner’s great grandmother.

The stall is located in a quiet coffeeshop beneath a HDB block, just a few minutes’ walk from the popular Tolido’s Espresso Nook.

I took a peek in the kitchen and saw the staff busy preparing their handmade ngoh hiangs in the bustling kitchen.

Menu

The stall’s signature item is the Ngoh Hiang ($5). It may seem expensive, but the ngoh hiang is quite big (18cm x 7cm) and consists of 90% ground pork belly and prawns.

The Fried Beehoon ($2) is known for its lingering dried shrimps (hae bee) fragrance.

The Fried Chicken Wings ($2 per piece) are very popular too.

Their Homemade Chilli Sauce is highly raved. It comes free with the food, but is also available for sale at $3.50 per 100ml.

You can order set meals like the Ngoh Hiang with Rice ($5.50) or Ngoh Hiang with Beehoon ($6.50).

Ngoh Hiang

I ordered one Ngoh Hiang ($5), which was fried perfectly with crisp golden-brown beancurd skin. The generous minced pork and prawn fillings were moist, fragrant, and fresh tasting.

The juicy chunks of water chestnuts embedded inside the fillings provided a pleasant surprise with their sweet and refreshing crunch.

I dipped the ngoh hiang in their homemade chilli sauce, which had a garlicky and tangy-sweet flavour that complemented the ngoh hiang perfectly.

On the whole, I find that the ngoh hiang here has a better texture and richer fragrance than other versions I’ve tried.

Fried Chicken Wing

The Fried Chicken Wing ($2) was especially addictive. It was served hot with really crisp and juicy skin. The meat was really succulent and satisfying too!

Conclusion

Sim’s Ngoh Hiang serves simple comfort food but they certainly do it well. Their ngoh hiang is one of the best I’ve ever eaten, and the fried chicken wing is a winner too. I’m looking forward to check out their popular fried bee hoon the next time I visit.
