Rong Xing Hakka Yong Tau Fu – Famous Yong Tau Foo At Taman Jurong Food Centre

If you are a fan of yong tau foo, you would have probably heard of Rong Xing Yong Tau Fu in Singapore. There are two branches, respectively located at Tanjong Pagar Food Centre and Taman Jurong Food Centre. This is my review of the Taman Jurong stall. This article was last updated on 20 August 2020.

Rong Xing Family Feud

Here’s a little background of this stall:

“Rong Xing Cooked Food” was a family-run yong tau foo stall located at Tanjong Pagar Food Centre. It eventually split into two due to a family feud between two sisters.

The older sister continued running “Rong Xing Cooked Food”, while the younger sister operated her new “Rong Xing Hakka Yong Tau Fu” stall just a few stalls down. Her signboard even had a “妹妹” (“younger sister”) suffix – see picture above.

In around 2014, the younger sister moved her stall to Taman Jurong Food Centre.

Today, the branch at Tanjong Pagar has been renamed to “Rong Xing Yong Tau Fu”, while the Taman Jurong stall remains as “Rong Xing Hakka Yong Tau Fu”.

Rong Xing Hakka Yong Tau Fu (Taman Jurong)

I visited Rong Xing Hakka Yong Tau Fu at Taman Jurong Food Centre on a weekday afternoon and was glad to see that there was still a decent variety of ingredients available.

From what I observed, the younger sister was in charge of cooking, while another man (presumably her husband) handled the orders.

Each ingredient costs $0.50, and you need to order a minimum of six ingredients. Takeaway costs an extra $0.20. The carbs options ($0.50) are noodles, bee hoon, kway teow and rice.

Refreshing and Tasty YTF

The soup had a tasty umami flavour that was very addictive. I found some ikan bilis inside which probably contributed to the soup’s natural sweetness.

The ingredients were all fresh, and my favourite was the savoury fried tau kee. I also like adding tomatoes because they help to sweeten the soup.

Unfortunately, I forgot to try their handmade pork balls which they are well-known for.

Both the sweet sauce and chilli sauce were great. The sweet sauce was surprisingly fragrant, while the chilli sauce was savoury and not too spicy.

Overall, the delicious soup, fresh ingredients, and tasty sauces came together nicely to form a very satisfying bowl of yong tau foo.

Conclusion

I’m glad that Rong Xing Hakka Yong Tau Fu at Taman Jurong Food Centre did not disappoint. I am looking forward to check out the Tanjong Pagar stall to see how it compares.
