Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace (Kawaguchiko, Japan) – Lovely Garden Complex With Quaint Cafes & Shops

As I entered Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace, it felt like time had slowed down. The sense of unity between this gorgeous garden complex, Kawaguchiko and Mount Fuji was amazing. I was glad the wife and I had planned this stopover for our Kawaguchiko day trip from Tokyo.

Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace

Located by Kawaguchiko, Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace is a garden-themed complex of rustic cafes, artisanal shops, lush greenery, and artful outdoor spaces.

Completed in 2017, this small complex was carefully designed to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding natural landscape.

Therefore, the buildings are intentionally kept low so that they will not obstruct the amazing views of Mount Fuji from here.

There are several quaint cafes in the compound, with some selling local Yamanashi Prefecture specialty treats.

The complex is also home to various artisan shops selling local crafts, Japanese clothing, handmade accessories, and artisanal souvenirs.

Beautiful Garden-Themed Complex

It was a pleasant experience to walk inside this picturesque compound, which has many lush trees and small gardens.

The cafes and shops are housed in separate buildings, which are connected to each other by stone pavements. This created a nice sense of space and tranquility.

There are wooden benches available if you wish to sit down and enjoy the serenity.

On the whole, I felt that Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace had a very tranquil and calming vibe that seemed to make time slow down.

Lovely Cafes

HanaCafe Kikyou

The complex is home to a small number of lovely quaint cafes.

The wife and I visited HanaCafe Kikyou, which is a flower-themed cafe that specialises in “Shingen mochi”, a popular Yamanashi rice cake snack.

The wife simply loved the gorgeous interiors of the cafe. It is decorated with plenty of fresh and dried flowers, and there are many beautiful ornaments and furnishings scattered around the cafe.

I took many pretty photos of the wife here.

We ordered a Kikyou Shingen Mochi Matcha Soft Serve (¥500), which came with several pieces of mochis on the side. This was a sweet and delicious treat.

After eating (and taking plenty of photos), we browsed through the colourful variety of Shingen mochi snacks on sale.

Brand New Day Coffee

We also passed by Brand New Day Coffee, a two-storey Western style cafe that sells artisan coffee, pizza, french fries, and croissants.

We didn’t have time to check it out, but the balcony on the second floor looked like the perfect place to have a hot cup of coffee while enjoying great views of Mount Fuji.

Budoya Kofu Hanaterrace Café

The Budoya Kofu Hanaterrace Café is another joint that I would have really liked to visit. It serves ice cream made from local Yamanashi fruits such as peaches and grapes.

Artisan Shops

Kakumaru dou Fuji Ooishi

There are also several artisan shops in the complex selling beautiful Japanese products and souvenirs.

Ichi no Kura sells a variety of Japanese snacks like dried fruits (kiwi, mango, papaya, etc), chocolates, and other Yamanashi fruit products. Unfortunately I’m not really a fan of dried fruits.

Atelier Fujizakura sells Japanese textile products like ties, handkerchiefs and towels. I touched some of the fabrics and they were very smooth and soft.

Kakumaru dou Fuji Ooishi is known for its flower-themed ornaments and accessories made from clear glass and natural stone.

My favourite shop was Medetaya, a small joint that sells beautiful handicrafts made from Japanese paper.

While we didn’t buy anything, it was a nice experience to browse through these quaint shops.

Wonderful Scenery

View of Mount Fuji from Oishi Park

From Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace, it is possible to see Mount Fuji in the distance. Luckily for us, it was a clear day and therefore we got an unobstructed view of the majestic mountain.

The complex is right beside Oishi Park, which has many lavender fields. When we visited in late November the flowers were not in full bloom yet, but it was nice to stroll around for a while and take some pictures.

We also got to enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Fuji from the park.

How to Go Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace

We took the Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Bus (Red-Line) and alighted at Bus Stop 20 (Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center).

From here we walked along the road for about three minutes to Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace.

Conclusion

Visiting Fuji Oishi Hana Terrace in Kawaguchiko was a wonderful experience. It was an excellent stopover for our day trip, where the wife and I got to relax, enjoy some delicious cafe food, and browse through unique artisan shops. Unfortunately we didn’t get to spend a lot of time here because we had to rush off to visit the other Kawaguchiko attractions before it got dark.
