How To Go Bath From London – The Ultimate Guide!

Bath is a quaint city in England known for its Roman Baths, beautiful Georgian architecture, pretty public parks and more. The city is located about 160km away from London, so it takes quite a while to travel here. Below are the four methods to get to Bath.

Method 1: Train

If you only want to visit Bath, the best way is to take a train, which is a very easy and convenient method. You can spend as much time as you wish exploring the city.

Step 1. Take the GWR train from London Padding Station (PAD) to Bath Spa Station (BTH). The train ride will take around 1.5 hours. A two-way ticket costs around £60.

Step 2. From the station, popular attractions like Bath Abbey and Roman Baths are just a few minutes’ walk away.

Method 2: Guided Tour

A guided tour of Bath usually also includes trips to Stonehenge and/or Windsor Castle. While this allows you to see multiple attractions in one day, it obviously also limits the amount of time you have at each site.

The wife and I decided to go on a Stonehenge and Bath day tour with Evan Evans Tours because we were on a relatively short holiday in London and did not have time to visit both attractions on two separate days.

We enjoyed the well-organised tour very much, and had about 3 hours to explore Bath. The guided tour will also be suitable if you are travelling with the elderly or young children.

Method 3: Bus

Taking a bus to Bath is convenient, comfortable and affordable. However, compared to taking a train, it is significantly slower.

Step 1: Take the National Express Bus from London Victoria Coach Station to Bath Bus Station. A one-way ticket costs about £15. The bus journey is around 2.5 hours.

Step 2: From Bath Bus Station, walk for a few minutes to the popular attractions in Bath.

Method 4: Car

Driving is the most direct way to get to Bath from London. However, car rentals are quite expensive in London, and you may also need to pay a “congestion charge” of £11.50 and an “emissions charge” of £12.50.

The road between London and Bath is a major commuter route that also happens to be the main road from London to Heathrow Airport, so traffic conditions can get quite bad.

To drive to Bath from London, go onto the M4, take exit 18 onto the A46, then follow the signs to Bath. The journey will take about 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic conditions. Click here for details on parking in Bath.
