Ichiran Opens Muslim-Friendly Outlets in Japan – Enjoy 100% Porkless and Alcohol-Free Ramen

Muslim visitors to Japan will be happy to know that the famous Ramen joint Ichiran has opened two Muslim-friendly outlets in Japan.

Muslim-Friendly Ichiran Outlets in Shinjuku & Osaka

Ichiran Ramen (一蘭) is a famous Japanese ramen chain known for its delicious tonkotsu ramen.

Unfortunately, Muslims are unable to enjoy this dish because it is a pork-based broth ramen served with chashu (braised pork belly).

However, I recent discovered that Ichiran now has two Muslim-friendly outlets in Japan, located in Shinjuku (Tokyo) and Osaka respectively.

The ramen at these two outlets do not contain any pork or alcohol at all.

The reason behind this move is because Ichiran has seen a steadily increasing number of Muslim tourists who are interested in trying Japanese ramen.

In order to cater to this demand, Ichiran decided to create a ramen broth made from chicken stock instead of pork. And instead of chashu, the ramen is paired with beef slices.

However, do note that the restaurant is NOT halal-certified. This is explicitly stated on their website.

Ichiran Chicken Broth Ramen

Initial reports of Ichiran’s porkless ramen have been positive. Like their tonkotsu ramen, the new chicken broth ramen is rich and flavourful.

The seating arrangement of the Muslim-friendly outlets is no different from the rest of their branches. Customers dine at private booths, separated from each other by wooden partitions.

Conclusion

Ichiran opened their first Muslim-friendly outlet in Shinjuku (Tokyo) in March 2019, followed closely by another Osaka branch in May 2019.

According to the company, they plan to set up many more Muslim-friendly ramen outlets in the future, both in Japan and overseas.

Personally, I am quite curious to check out this new chicken broth ramen. I wonder if it will be similar to Marutama (a chicken broth ramen specialist), or if it will offer something different but still delicious.
