Calbee Plus (Tokyo) – Fried Potato Crisps With Royce Chocolate, Limited Edition Snacks, Poterico, and More!

While walking around Tokyo Station, I found plenty of awesome Japanese snacks shops, and one of them was Calbee Plus. Yes this is the same “Calbee” as the popular Japanese snack brand. This article was last updated on 25 June 2019.

Calbee Plus

Calbee paraphernalia

Calbee Plus is a Japanese snacks shop run by the world-famous snack brand, Calbee.

There are two outlets in Tokyo. One is located at Takeshita Street in Harajuku, while the other is situated at Tokyo Station.

I visited the Tokyo Station branch.

Inside the shop, I saw a large variety of Japanese tidbits. The shop also sells food like soft serve and fried potato crisps. I also saw Calbee paraphernalia such as keychains, soft toys, stationery, etc.

Calbee Plus Snacks

Plenty of Calbee snacks

Japan-exclusive Pringles

Limited edition Hi-Chew candies

The shop sells various classic Calbee snacks, such as Jagabee and Jagarico. The “Jaga” in both names means potato, but the two snacks are actually quite different.

Jagabee is a signature Calbee snack that has been around for many years. They are basically fried potato sticks that look similar to french fries. It usually comes in straightforward flavours such as light salt, butter etc.

Jagarico, on the other hand, are steamed mashed potatoes that are reshaped into sticks and then deep fried. They come in more creative flavours such as salad, sesame oil, and seaweed dashi.

There were also other interesting Calbee snacks like the Olive Oil Potato Chips.

Other than Calbee snacks, I also saw Japan exclusive Pringles chips, such as the “Sukiyaki Flavor Pringles”.

The wife was really excited to spot the famous Hi-Chew fruity chewy candies. The candies come in limited edition flavours, such as Hokkaido Melon, Okinawa Mango, Kyushu Strawberry and more.

We bought plenty of these chewy candies! I am chewing on a Hokkaido Melon Hi-Chew candy now as I type.

Calbee Plus Food

Popular Items

Full Menu

The most popular food items are the Poterico and freshly fried potato crisps.

The Poterico is actually a derivative of Calbee’s Jagarico potato snack. As mentioned above, “Jagarico” is a potato stick snack.

As for the potato crisps, they are deep fried in store and served hot. You can even add toppings like Royce chocolate sauce, soft serve, or cheese.

The other two items I saw on the menu were churros and Hokkaido soft serve. You can check out the latest Calbee Plus Tokyo Station food menu here.

Ordering from Vending Machine

The wife and I were not very hungry, so we only ordered the Poterico Cheese (JPY 310). I placed my order using a digital vending machine, and inserted cash. I was then issued a ticket with my order number. Once the poterico was ready, I collected it from the counter.

Poterico Cheese

The Poterico Cheese (JPY 310) had a crunchy bite and a rich salty flavour. The cheese fragrance was quite pleasant too. On the whole this was quite a satisfying snack.

To wash down the snack, I drank the Pepsi Nex (JPY 190). This is supposedly a “zero calorie” drink made from stevia, a plant-based sweetener. It tasted slightly less sweet than normal Pepsi, and was good for washing down the oily Poterico snack.

Directions

Calbee Plus is located beside First Avenue in Tokyo Station

Calbee Plus is located in Tokyo Station, in front of the Yaesu Underground Central ticket gates. It is right beside the “First Avenue” shopping / dining area.

We had some difficulty locating this shop, and had to ask for directions from the Tokyo station staff by showing them a picture of the Calbee Plus shop we found on the Internet.

Conclusion

I had a fun time checking out the Calbee Plus shop at Tokyo Station. There were plenty of interesting snacks, including many Japan exclusive tidbits. The Poterico was quite delicious too. Calbee Plus is definitely one of the snack shops in Tokyo Station worth visiting.
