Skytropolis Genting Indoor Theme Park – Thrilling Rides, VR Experiences, Family Rides, and More

Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park is the latest attraction at Resorts World Genting. I visited it recently with high expectations, and I was not disappointed. The rides were amazing, and the VR experiences were awesome too! Below is my guide to the best rides, VR experiences, and food at this Genting indoor theme park. Remember to buy your one-day pass for unlimited rides online to save money. This article was last updated on 22 June 2020.

Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park

Skytropolis Funland is an indoor theme park located on the first floor of First World Plaza in Resorts World Genting. It was previously known as the “First World Indoor Theme Park” before closing for renovations in April 2017. It reopened on 08 Dec 2018 as “Skytropolis Funland”.

There are plenty of awesome rides in this new theme park! Considering the limited indoor space, we were impressed that many of rides were able to take riders high up into the air. If you do not have the stomach for thrilling rides, or are travelling with young children, there are many family-friendly rides in Skytropolis too.

Other than rides, there is also an awesome virtual reality centre built by The Void, a US-based entertainment company. Visitors get to choose from a variety of VR experiences such as Star Wars, Wreck-it Ralph, Ghostbusters, etc.

And of course, there are lots of delicious food in the indoor theme park! In total, we saw eight food booths.

– Rides –

When we went on 29 Dec 2018, only 13 out of the 21 rides* in Skytropolis Funland were operational. However, these rides were enough for our whole family to have lots of fun!

*Update 12 Mar 2020: 17 rides are now available, see updated list below under “Other Rides (Coming Soon)”.

All rides cost the same at RM10 per ride on weekdays. It goes up to RM15 on weekends, public holidays, eve of public holidays, and school holidays.

If you are an adrenaline junkie, you can purchase this online one-day preview pass which allows you to take the rides unlimited times! Buying online allows you to skip the queue at the ticketing counter and save some time. You just need to exchange the online voucher for a wristband at the counter.

The queues for many of the rides were extremely long during peak hours, so our strategy was to visit in the early morning when the theme park had just opened.

1. Spin Crazy (Thrill Ride)

This was definitely the most intense ride in Skytropolis! Spin Crazy is a huge pendulum that takes its riders on gut-twisting 360 degrees spins high up in the air. I didn’t have the guts to take this ride, but it is a must-try for adrenaline junkies!

Intensity Level: 9/10
Height Requirement: 130cm to 195cm

2. Power Surge (Thrill Ride)

This was another intense ride in the theme park! Power Surge is an exhilarating high-flying ride that spins its riders around in the air while simultaneously turning them in alternating clockwise and anti-clockwise motions. We enjoyed this ride very much!

Intensity Level: 8/10
Height Requirement: 130cm to 195cm

3. Disco! (Thrill Ride)

We had lots of fun on this exciting ride! Disco! is a huge spinning disc that swings back and forth along a curved track, while rotating rapidly at the same time. I have to admit the ride didn’t look that intense when I was looking at it on the ground, as compared to when I was actually riding it. Another one for the adrenaline junkies!

Intensity Level: 7/10
Height Requirement: >122cm

4. Sky Towers (Thrill Ride)

Sky Towers is a drop tower ride that goes high up before plummeting down at a fast speed. It repeats this motion continuously, giving its riders an adrenaline rush each time.

Intensity Level: 7/10
Height Requirement: >105cm (Riders below 122cm must be accompanied by an adult)

5. Bumper Boss (Thrill Ride)

No theme park is complete without a bumper car ride, therefore we were not surprised to see the Bumper Boss. This seemed to be a fun activity, but the bumper car area was a little small.

Intensity Level: 5/10
Height Requirement: >120cm (Riders below 130cm must be accompanied by an adult)

6. Balloon Race (Family Ride)

Balloon Race is a family-friendly ride that takes riders high up in the air in spinning gondolas. You can control the spin by using a wheel inside. I enjoyed this ride, but my niece kept spinning us around which made me pretty dizzy.

Intensity Level: 4/10
Height Requirement: > 80cm (Riders below 1.22m must be accompanied by an adult)

7. Space Cadets (Family Ride)

If your kids are looking for something slightly more exciting, the Space Cadets ride would be a good choice. This futuristic ride takes its riders on spaceships that can be controlled to fly higher or lower.

Intensity Level: 2.5/10
Height Requirement: >80cm (Riders below 122cm must be accompanied by an adult)

8. Boo Boo Bump (Child Ride)

Gently bump your way around with Boo Boo Bump, a miniature bumper car ride for children.

Intensity Level: 2.5/10
Height Requirement: 105cm to 140cm

9. Royal Carousel (Family Ride)

This was one of the most beautiful rides in the theme park! Royal Carousel is a double-storey carousel beautifully adorned with intricate carved horses and chariots.

However, when it was our turn for the ride, we realised that many of the horses were not functioning and the remaining operational ones were already occupied. We had to sit inside a chariot instead.

All the horses / chariots have benches beside them for adults to sit down and watch over their kids.

Intensity Level: 2/10
Height Requirement: > 80cm (Riders below 1.22m must be accompanied by an adult)

10. Copper Express (Family Ride)

Copper Express is an open-top train ride that takes children round a mini green safari. The seats are wide enough to accommodate adults.

Intensity Level: 1.5/10
Height Requirement: >80cm (Riders below 122cm must be accompanied by an adult)

11. Loop de Loop (Child Ride)

This is perfect for the young kids. Loop de Loop ferries its young riders along mild curves and slopes around a glittering iron tower.

Intensity Level: 1.5/10
Height Requirement: 90cm to 122cm

12. Ride ‘Em Round (Child Ride)

Ride ‘Em Round is a mini merry-go-round for children with seats that move up and down. However, I would suggest going for the adjacent double-storey Royal Carousel which is bigger and more beautiful.

Intensity Level: 1.5/10
Height Requirement: 90cm to 122cm

13. Whirly Bugs (Child Ride)

This is another ride for the young children. Whirly Bugs is a fun ride on “gigantic bugs” that spins around at a slow speed.

Intensity Level: 1/10
Height Requirement: 90cm to 122cm

Other Rides (Coming Soon)

Below is a list of rides that are coming soon! Based on what we saw, these remaining rides are already completed, and some of them were even lighted up. However, they were not in operation. We will update this article once we confirm that the rides are available.

  • Skyscraper – Ferris wheel with colourful gondolas (NOW AVAILABLE)
  • Jumping Spurs – Mini jumping tower for children (NOW AVAILABLE)
  • Stormy Voyage – Classic Viking Ship Ride (NOW AVAILABLE)
  • Tea Cups – Family friendly tea cup rides (NOW AVAILABLE)
  • Music Express – Fast spinning exciting ride
  • Super Glider – Suspended Lie-down rollercoaster
  • Chariot Cruise – Family friendly ride around the park
  • Soaring Ships – Suspended ride with aerial view for family

– The VOID –

The VOID, a virtual reality entertainment centre, is right beside the theme park. Wearing a VR headset and vest, visitors roam around in a large virtual space, fending off virtual enemies with their weapons.

Tickets cost RM130 each, but if you buy The VOID + Skytropolis Funland Preview Pass combo, it costs just RM150 (savings of RM40). There is a minimum height requirement of 122cm.

The VOID offers five VR experiences:

  • Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire
  • Ralph Breaks VR (from the cartoon movie Wreck-It Ralph)
  • Nicodemus: Demon of Evanishment
  • Ghostbusters: Dimension
  • Avengers: Damage Control

When we went on 29 Dec 2018, only the Star Wars and Wreck-It Ralph VR experiences were available. We tried both VR experiences, and they were both super fun!

1. Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire

For Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, we were plunged into the tumultuous world of the Star Wars Rogue One movie. After getting our mission brief from Captain Cassian Andor, we roamed around the molten planet of Mustafar disguised as stormtroopers.

We used our blaster rifles to fend off giant lava monsters and other stormtroopers, solved puzzles by pressing buttons, interacted with K-2SO, and even got to battle the sinister Darth Vader!

And I was surprised to feel heat along with a slight vibration when I got hit by the enemies’ blasters. This definitely added to the realism of the VR experience.

On the whole, this was an exciting and immersive experience that literally transported us to another world for a good 15 minutes. And it was pretty hilarious when I turned around to see my family members transformed into stormtroopers through the VR headset.

Even though it’s quite expensive, I highly recommend this Star Wars VR experience; if only for the fact that you get a once-in-a-lifetime experience to go head to head with Darth Vader!

2. Ralph Breaks VR

For Ralph breaks VR, our goal was to save Ralph. Along the way, we had to fend off large groups of rabbits and another affable creatures by shooting cutesy projectiles at them from our big guns. I almost didn’t feel like shooting them because they were so cute!

We also had to survive an epic food fight where we got “attacked” by pancakes, pizzas, and cakes.

Similar to the Star Wars VR experience, my vest vibrated every time I got hit.

This VR experience is great for families and children! They will definitely enjoy immersing themselves in this interactive cartoon virtual world.

– Food –

1. Wowfils

This booth offers tantalising freshly-made egg waffles served with ice cream or soft serve for RM14. Toppings such as M&M chocolates, chocolate rice, jelly beans, and gummy bears are available at RM1.50 each.

2. Ice Cream & Gelato

From the booth’s name, it’s pretty obvious what it’s selling. We bought a scoop of gelato for RM9 and added M&M chocolate toppings (RM1.50). The booth sells pretty stick ice creams too.

3. Durian Delights

You might need to rinse your mouth after this! The booth sells a variety of durian pastries such as durian cake and durian strudel (both RM8). This is one for the durian lovers.

4. Popcorn & Fairy Floss

This booth sells popcorns with a variety of interesting flavours such as Caramel Classic, Banana, BBQ Chicken, Curry, Durian, Strawberry, Wasabi and more. They sell cotton candy too!

5. Local Pastries

If you are craving for some local food, this booth offers curry puffs (RM5), egg tarts (RM2), chicken pies (RM5), pineapple tarts (RM2), sesame red bean balls (RM2), and more. This was one of the more affordable food booths in the theme park.

6. Think Pink

Little girls (and perhaps some ladies) will like this booth. It sells pink-themed pastries and sweets such as Strawberry Eclairs, Strawberry Brownies, Pink Chocolate Fudge, etc.

7. Malaysian Delights

This booth sells a variety of street food such as squid balls, fish balls, sausages, nuggets, banana fritters, deep fried sweet potatoes, and more. They cost about RM5 each. Make sure you drink lots of water after eating these oily food!

8. Circus Snacks

This food booth is actually located on the second floor, inside the BigTop Video Games Park. It sells popcorns (RM9 for 48oz), soft serve (RM5), and sausage buns (RM6).

Conclusion

Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park definitely exceeded our expectations! It’s amazing that Resorts World Genting managed to build so many awesome rides inside an indoor theme park with limited space.

Other than the rides, we also enjoyed our VR experiences at The VOID very much.

The theme park is great for people of all ages because there are both thrilling and family-friendly rides.

We spent about half a day at this indoor theme park. I recommend visiting during non peak hours (early morning or late night) if you want to avoid the queues.

    Hey Evan,

Any idea of any age restrictions?

Do I need to purchase entrance tickets for a 2 year old?

Are there enough good rides for her?

    Thanks!

  • Evan

    Hi Kerrie,

    Apologies for the late reply.

The age restrictions apply on certain rides. And I think it is more of a height restriction; your child needs to meet a minimum height for the rides.

Yes, there are quite a few child rides like Whirly Bugs, Ride ‘Em Round, Copper Express, etc.

Hi, all the rides you listed under “Other Rides (Coming Soon)” are still not available as of 11/4/19.

We are given a wristband to wear on our wrist when we buy the preview pass for unlimited Skytropolis rides. Each ride required us to scan wristband at the turntable to enter. So we can go eat, rest and come back again within the same day, as long as you don’t remove the wristband.

    Hello Evan,

Is there any way to confirm if the unopened rides like the roller coasters will be open by early June? I was trying to find information about it but I did not get a confirmed date, and what exactly is the preview pass? So I was wondering if you knew?
Please drop me an email if you have replied.

    Thank you so much =)

Hi geetha! Unfortunately I’m not too sure too. I emailed Resorts World Genting to ask about the rides’ opening date, but didn’t get any reply from them. The preview pass is basically a ticket that lets you take the rides unlimited times. I believe it’s called a “preview” pass because some of the rides are not open yet.

    Hi,

Do they need physical printout for preview pass?
Was thinking of booking online when we are there for the next day’s visit.

  • Evan

Hi Christina, no they do not need a physical printout. You can just present the voucher on your phone.

hi Evan! I just wanted to ask, if I bought the Skytropolis ticket in Klook including the cable car ticket, would they also give us the ticket for the Void? Or can we add on?

    Thanks.

  • Evan
    24 Jun 19

Hi tabs! No The Void tickets are NOT included, you will have to buy that separately.

  • Shirley
    17 Jul 19

    Hi Evan,

How do you redeem the wristband after purchasing the ticket on Klook?

Also may I know the temperature at Skytropolis and if thick clothing are required for kids?

    Thank you.

  • Evan
    17 Jul 19

    Hello Shirley,

You will need to go to the online booking lane, show the staff the Klook voucher on your phone, and they will pass you the wristband.

It wasn’t cold at all when I went in December last year, so I do not think thick clothing is required at all. Enjoy your trip!
