Our Honest Review of McDonald’s New CNY 2019 Item – Hotcakes with Golden Chicken

McDonald’s Singapore recently announced the release of a new item for their CNY 2019 menu: Hotcakes with Golden Chicken. This is basically a fried chicken cutlet paired with classic McDonald’s hotcakes. Since I am a big fan of fried chicken and waffles, I knew I would probably enjoy this very much too.

Hotcakes with Golden Chicken

The Hotcakes with Golden Chicken will be available from today (24 January 2019), and is served as a breakfast item at all McDonald’s branches.

You can purchase it à la carte at $6.50, or at $7.90 as part of a value meal with drink and hashbrown / corn.

Verdict: I’m Lovin’ It

I was pretty impressed by the size of the chicken cutlet. It was served together with the hotcakes, resting seductively on one of them.

I decided to try the fried chicken on its own first. It looked really good, so my expectations were high as I took my first bite.

I was not disappointed.

After their recent fiasco misstep with the Salted Egg Yolk Loaded Fries, this was definitely a much better improvement.

The tantalising chunk of cutlet was fried to perfection! It was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Even though it looked quite dry, it was actually really juicy and savoury.

The taste reminded me of the fried chicken from another popular fast food chain in Singapore. *cough*KFC*cough*Zinger*

For the classic hotcakes, I smeared on butter and poured a copious amount of syrup as usual.

I cut out one small slice, and scooped it into my mouth together with a chunk of fried chicken.

The hotcakes were fluffy and sweet, turning into a pleasant mush in my mouth before giving way to the wonderful savoury flavours of the fried chicken.

This is tasty stuff, guys.

If you are the YOLO type who have the “eat first diet later” mindset, you can order additional fried chicken cutlets ($2) to go along with your hotcakes. It’s not a bad idea to enjoy this fried chicken cutlet on its own too.
