How to Go IconSiam Bangkok – The City’s Newest, Biggest, and Most Fancy Mega Mall

In this article, I will show you the four methods to go IconSiam Bangkok. I recommend taking the free shuttle boat (method 1) as this is the best method for most tourists. Before going down, make sure you get this free IconSiam Tourist Card that entitles you to 30% discounts at certain stores, 6% VAT refund, 5% discount at Takashimaya, and many other privileges. This article was last updated on 17 May 2020.

Method 1: By Free Shuttle Boat

Step 1. Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin BTS station

For the first part of our journey, we took the BTS Skytrain to Saphan Taksin BTS station on the Silom Line.

We took the train from Siam station and the ride only took around 12 minutes.

Step 2. Walk to Sathorn Pier (3 minutes)

After alighting from the train, we went out from Exit 1 and walked down the stairs.

We continued walking along a sheltered walkway until we reached Sathorn Pier. We saw a signboard indicating left to “Boat Express” and right to “Ferry”. We turned right.

It was quite easy to find the IconSiam shuttle board boarding point because there were plenty of signs guiding us along the way.

After walking for about one minute more, we reached the shuttle boat boarding point.

Step 3. Take the Free IconSiam Shuttle Boat (10 minutes)

At the boarding point, we joined the queue of about 30 people and got to board the first shuttle boat that arrived. The boat had “ICONSIAM” printed clearly on the side. We went on a weekday at around 4pm.

The boat was quite big and we managed to find seats easily. I recommend sitting on the left side of the boat (facing the front) because that is where you will get the best views of IconSiam Bangkok as the boat approaches the mall’s pier.

After a short ten-minute boat ride, we reached the awesome IconSiam mall!

Currently, the shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier to IconSiam Bangkok runs daily from 9am to 10pm at ten-minute intervals.

Step 4. Going Back From IconSiam to Saphan Taksin BTS Station

Entrance of Pier 1

After a few fun hours of exploring IconSiam, we went back to our earlier alighting point at Pier 1 to catch the shuttle boat back to Saphan Taksin BTS Station.

We left at around 6.30pm and managed to board the first shuttle boat that arrived.

Currently, the shuttle boat from IconSiam Bangkok back to Saphan Taksin BTS runs daily from 8am to 11.30pm at ten-minute intervals.

Other Piers to Board The IconSiam Free Shuttle Boat

Other than Sathorn Pier, there are three other piers to catch the free shuttle boat to IconSiam Bangkok: CAT Building Pier (Wat Muang Kae), Si Phraya Pier and Ratchawong Pier.

Depending on where you are coming from, it may be more convenient to take the shuttle from these piers instead.

For example, if you are coming from Wat Pho, you can take the Chao Phraya Express Boat (No Flag or Orange Flag) for THB 15 to Ratchawong Pier, and then catch the free IconSiam shuttle boat from that pier.

Method 2: By Free Shuttle Bus

Take the BTS Skytrain to Krung Thonburi BTS Station, go out from Exit 1, and board the free IconSiam Shuttle Bus. The bus runs every 30 minutes from 8am to 12am. The journey will take around 15 minutes depending on traffic.

OR

You can also take the BTS Skytrain to Wongwian Yai Station and catch the free shuttle bus from there. The bus runs at 30-minute intervals between 9.30am and 10pm. The journey will take around 15 minutes depending on traffic.

Method 3: By Chao Phraya Tourist Boat

The popular Chao Phraya Tourist Boat (BLUE flag) stops at 10 piers, and one of them is the IconSiam pier. This is a fun way to explore the various attractions along Chao Phraya River. This is NOT a free boat ride, but you can buy your ticket from Klook to get a discount. Check out the boat route.

Method 4: By Grab or Taxi

You can also catch a taxi or book a Grab ride to IconSiam Bangkok. However, you risk getting stuck in the infamous Bangkok traffic jams, especially during peak hours.

Method 5: By Hotel Boat Service

Currently, the four hotels below offer free shuttle boat services to IconSiam for their guests:

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, I recommend taking the free shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier (beside Saphan Taksin BTS station) to go IconSiam Bangkok as it is the best method for most tourists.

We really enjoyed the boat ride! It was the perfect start to our adventure at this fantastic mega mall. We didn’t check out the IconSiam shuttle bus but I would imagine that it’s much more fun taking a boat ride on the scenic Chao Phraya River.

After taking the IconSiam shuttle boat back to Sathorn pier in the evening, we caught another free shuttle boat from the pier to popular attraction, Asiatique The Riverfront. The timing was just right because Asiatique only really comes alive at night.

Thanks for reading and I hope you now have a clearer idea of how to go IconSiam Bangkok!

Of course a boat ride is nice, if there are no queues.

By the way the fastest however is to just take a taxi or Grab.

Hi Emily, did you encounter a long queue personally? When we went on a weekday at around 4pm, we got to board the first ferry that arrived. And the large boat runs at 10 minute intervals so I think the waiting time should be reasonable even if there is a queue. Let me know if I’m wrong!

Yes a taxi or Grab ride is convenient, but you risk getting caught in traffic, especially during peak hours. Bangkok is known to have pretty bad traffic jams!

I agree 100%, Evan. The best way to get to IconSiam is to take the BTS to Saphan Taksin station and then the free shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier. Taking Grab/taxi will just get you stuck in traffic and cost more Bhat.

Since grab/taxi is mentioned, I have to add a few tips: If you decide to take a Grab or taxi, be sure to ask for the “meter” upon entering the vehicle. =) And be kind and add some tip. Also, don’t be too alarmed if the driver takes some shortcuts down side alleys. Sometimes that is the best way to keep moving and avoid main-road traffic jams.

Your website has great information that really helped us today =)

We are staying at the Ramada Riverside – Now they DO NOT offer a ferry ride to Icon Siam – You may wish to change this.

The courtesy bus from Krung Ton Buri BTS runs every 30 minutes. I have never seen the bus full, but you are expected to wait on the pavement for the bus. There is shelter but no seats.
