Oddies Foodies – The Most Instagram-Worthy Ice Cream Desserts in Hong Kong!

It was late at night and we were walking along Gough Street in Sheung Wan, trying to find Oddies Foodies. This dessert shop is famous for its delicious Instagram-worthy ice cream dessert. Luckily, we managed to reach the shop just before it closed for the night!

Oddies Foodies

Oddies Foodies is an ice cream shop in Hong Kong known for inventing the eggette parfait. This sweet treat combines Italian gelato with gai daan jai (egg waffles or eggettes) to create a mouthwatering East-meets-West fusion dessert!

The shop is helmed by Winnie, a Hong Konger who graduated from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. Well, she has definitely put her training to good use by creating this awesome fusion dessert.

Oddies Foodies started with a branch in Wan Chai which has since closed down. They only have one branch in Sheung Wan for now.

Good Ambience and Service

Oddies Foodies has a rather discreet storefront, but luckily they have a bright neon sign which helped us to find it at night.

The small shop has a white-themed minimalist decor, with a white marble counter and white walls lined with dessert pop paintings. Customers can choose to order takeaways or sit on white stools along a narrow countertop.

We reached Oddies Foodies at around 9.45pm on a Saturday night (closing time is 10pm) and there were still several people in the shop; a testimony to their popularity.

The cashier was very patient with us even though we took really long to decide our order (can’t blame us, there were so many options!). If we had done the same in other traditional Hong Kong eateries, we would probably have been scolded and chased out of the joint.

The Mob

The shop’s most popular item is the Night Wolf. However, after going through the menu, we decided to order The Mob (HKD69). This sumptuous eggette parfait consists of black sesame mochi eggettes topped with Italian low fat gelato, and paired with apple yuzu jelly, homemade matcha ice cream, and wafer chunks.

After waiting for about five minutes, we got our hands on this sumptuous dessert! We were happy to see that it looked exactly like what we saw on Instagram.

After taking many pictures, we quickly dug in. I was hooked from the first mouthful! The egg waffle had a slightly crispy exterior and a warm fluffy interior, from which emanated the distinct aroma of black sesame. It went together perfectly with the luscious gelato which romanced my taste buds and left me wanting more. Digging deeper into the cup, I discovered yet another level of enjoyment: the pleasant scent of the matcha ice cream was punctuated by the crunch of tasty wafer chunks and sweet-tangy taste of apple yuzu jelly. On the whole, the unique blend of delicious ingredients made this a novel dessert which I enjoyed very much!

there is also a variety of gelato for your selection

Oddies Foodies offers three main items: Eggette Parfaits, Artisan Gelato, and Fusion Eggette. If you are looking for a delicious ice cream dessert that is also Instagram-worthy, I highly recommend the Eggette Parfait. If you just want to savour Italian gelato, pick one of the Artisan Gelato. For a taste of Hong Kong’s traditional street snack (with a modern twist), go for the Fusion Eggette.

Conclusion

We are really happy to have discovered Oddies Foodies! Our sumptuous eggette parfait tasted every bit as good as it looked. The price was relatively high, but we felt it was totally worth it for the taste, presentation and quality of the dessert. This is a must-try for any foodie visiting Hong Kong!

Went here last week upon reading this blog, and other positive reviews around the internet. We had the worst experience since the rain was pouring and we just got out of an Uber that took us to this place.

To our shock, we were discriminated against because my dad was in a wheelchair. In the words of the guy manning the store, “we are not wheelchair accessible”. We calmly asked if we could just wait for an Uber to take us elsewhere, but he was really rude and insisted that we leave immediately.

It was really disgusting how these people can be so inconsiderate and inhumane. I have never been more disrespected in my life. The rudest people I’ve met ever.
