The Daily Catch Review – Awesome Italian Bistro in Boston (North End)

One of our favourite memories of Boston is dining at The Daily Catch, a homely Italian bistro renowned for its delicious “Sicilian-Style” seafood and pasta dishes. This was definitely our favourite place to eat in Boston!

The Daily Catch

The Daily Catch was opened in 1973 by Paul Freddura, a second generation Italian immigrant borned and raised in the North End neighbourhood of Boston. The bistro strives to offer delicious seafood and pasta dishes prepared using “Sicilian-style” recipes passed down from generations before. Today, The Daily Catch has expanded to three locations across Boston. The thriving business is now managed by Paul, his wife, and their seven sons! We visited the North End branch.

Homely Ambience

The bistro has a cozy and homely ambience where customers can dine in comfort. Service was decent and the food was served quite fast. During our meal, we had a pleasant conversation with an elderly local couple seated beside us. They even gave us several sightseeing tips for our next stop in New York City.

Calamari Scampi

Our first dish was the Calamari Scampi ($12.75), comprising fresh squids sauteed with garlic oil, butter, lemon and wine, served in scampi sauce. The squids were succulent and went nicely with the savoury sauce. This was a great start to our meal.

Black Pasta Aglio Olio

However, the highlight of our meal was the signature Black Pasta Aglio Olio ($24), recommended by by the elderly couple. It consists of grounded squid sauteed with garlic and olive oil, and served with squid ink pasta. Interestingly, the dish was served to us in the cooking pan, still warm and steaming from the kitchen. I took a bite and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it tasted. The savoury flavours of the grounded squid and gravy came together perfectly to provide a wonderful gustatory experience. The noodles were delicious too, with great texture and infused with the rich flavour of the gravy. This dish is NOT to be missed if you are ever visiting Boston!
