We stood outside the John Jacob Ballroom at The St. Regis Singapore, bracing ourselves for the first wedding march-in. I felt Raevian tightening her hand around my arm. I put my hand over hers, and told her in the most reassuring tone I could muster:
“It will be all right dear. Just breathe.”
The march-in song started playing, and a short while later the hefty doors slowly opened to bright white lights, wispy smoke, and silhouettes of our guests giving a standing ovation. I could feel my heart beating really fast now. After months of preparation, this moment had finally arrived.
“I love you,” I whispered to Raevian. Together, we slowly walked into the majestic ballroom. Continue reading
Gong Cha fans rejoice! Unison Capital, the parent company of Gong Cha, has announced that the popular bubble tea chain will be returning to Singapore within the next several months. Here’s six things you should know. Continue reading
These are exciting times for the bubble tea scene in Singapore. First, RTG Holdings announced that it will be changing all their Gong Cha outlets into LiHO outlets, due to contractual issues with Unison Capital, the Gong Cha franchise’s parent company. Then, Unison Capital retaliated with a counter jab of sorts, announcing that the Gong Cha brand would be returning to Singapore soon in a “bigger, better, upgraded format”.
This may be an interesting bubble tea saga, but at the end of the day we are much more concerned with whether the bubble tea still taste good – regardless of whether it’s called Gong Cha or LiHO or BuayHO. We tried out some of the LiHO drinks, and here’s our verdicts. Continue reading
I stared blankly at the golden pass in my hand. This was literally the golden ticket that would grant me access to The Private Room, Singapore Airlines’ elite lounge for its Suites and First Class passengers. I had anticipated this moment for so long, but now that it was really happening, I wasn’t quite sure what to feel. And so I turned to Raevian with a sheepish smile and said: “The ticket looks very atas hor.”
She rolled her eyes. Continue reading
While touring Toronto, Raevian and I weren’t expecting to stumble upon great Thai food. But this was exactly what we found at Khao San Road, a Thai food restaurant located along Charlotte Street in Toronto. Continue reading
Every Chinese couple in Singapore knows that they need to buy and exchange Guo Da Li (Betrothal) gifts before their actual wedding day. Evan and I exchanged the gifts about one month before our wedding. Out of the many shops we visited, Yuan Xi Wedding & Gifts at Chinatown Complex had the best prices by far. The service was great too! Continue reading
After waiting for a few years, we had finally gotten the keys to our new five room BTO! Raevian and I were really excited to embark on this new phase of our lives. However, we knew that there were still plenty of work to be done. The first important task was to check for defects in our new house. Luckily, we came across Absolute Inspection, a company that specializes in defects checking for new homes. We decided to engage the services of this company and it turned out to be one of our best decisions. Continue reading
It was 7am on a Thursday morning and I woke up to the pleasant sound of my phone alarm. I looked out of the window and saw raindrops pitter-pattering on the window pane. But the rainy New York City weather did not dampen my mood at all. Still feeling excited, I sprung out of bed to start washing up. No, nothing could dampen my mood today, because we were going on a FULL DAY SHOPPING TRIP to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets! Continue reading
Sometimes, you just want to indulge in delicious, no-nonsense ice cream. Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, located near the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, offers you just that.
This ice cream joint sells delectable ice cream in various signature flavours. It is one of the most popular dessert places in Brooklyn. When we visited around noon, there was a long queue of people waiting outside the shop, despite it being winter! This just goes to show that you do not need bells and whistles to build a good food business – you just need plain old good food. Continue reading
As you might know, Evan and I recently went on a two week honeymoon to USA and Canada. Whenever we travel, we simply need to stay connected to the Internet. Due to the nature of our jobs, we need internet connectivity to check important emails on the go. We also need to inform family members of our whereabouts, and update our adventures on social media anytime, anywhere. This time round, we decided to use the iVideo Pocket Wifi for our trip. It turned out to be cheaper, more convenient and reliable than what we had expected! Here’s our review of this device. Continue reading
Wall Street is a global financial hub located in New York City. There are many things to do here, and this area definitely has more than just finance to offer. We visited this fabled district recently, and it was a surreal experience. I mean, this is the place where billions of dollars of transactions are done everyday; it is also the place where Wall Street power brokers can make or break our global financial system.
We also enjoyed admiring Wall Street’s architecture very much, which mostly stems from the opulent Gilded Age. Therefore, we came across many stately neoclassical architectural buildings as well as various beautiful Neo-Gothic structures. Wall Street has deep historical significance as well. We saw many monuments and memorials commemorating the country’s historical events and figures. This area has been witness to many of the nation’s triumphs: the swearing in of the first US president, the establishment of a powerful stock exchange, etc. But sadly, it has also been the victim of some tragic events. Last but not least, we also found a good shopping spot in Wall Street. Raevian had a good time browsing the myriad of designer-brand goods here.
Therefore, Wall Street is definitely more than just a financial hub! Continue reading
There are many awesome cafes in New York City, and Two Hands Cafe is one of them. This cheery cafe is known for its healthy Western food and awesome coffee. It is located along Mott Street, a teeming thoroughfare in Chinatown NYC. Continue reading
During our visit to Toronto recently, we visited the Eggspectation branch at Bell Trinity Square in downtown Toronto. It offers awesome Western food in a stylish setting. This popular bistro originated from Montreal in 1993 and has now expanded to other parts of Cananda, India, the U.S., Qatar, and Dubai. Looking at the menu, I learnt that the bistro is famous for its delicious egg benedicts. Continue reading
Many people do not know that Maafushi (Maldives) has a Floating Bar and Safari that is located about three minutes offshore by boat. The bar offers Italian fusion food, but the main reason that people come here is because it is the only place in Maafushi that serves alcohol. Continue reading
We went to Maafushi in Maldives recently and tried our hands at Sunset Fishing. It was a really fun experience! The trip was booked through our hotel, Velana Beach Hotel, and cost just USD 20. Continue reading
During our holiday in Maafushi, we booked a one-day resort excursion to Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives through iCom Tours. We paid USD 120 each which included the entrance fee, transport fee, a sumptuous buffet lunch and unlimited drinks including alcohol! The tour was booked one day in advance. Continue reading

When I first saw the adorable food cubes at Food Anatomy in Tanjong Pagar Centre, I was a little skeptical about how they would taste. Could Nasi Lemak still taste good after it was shaped into a cube? But after I took my first bite, all my doubts were gone and I am now a fan of this awesome bistro! Continue reading
When I first tried Chalong’s charcoal grilled meat bowls at Tanjong Pagar Centre, I was literally blown away by how delicious it tasted. This is definitely one of my favourite eateries in Singapore! Chalong specializes in awesome charcoal grilled meats that are cooked in the acclaimed Josper Charcoal Oven, and smoked with apple wood to give it more depth and flavour. The chef also uses the Sous vide cooking technique, where food is cooked at a controlled temperature under vacuum in a hot water bath. The control of heat allows consistency in temperature of the cooked meats, ensuring premium quality every time. Continue reading
Last year, Raevian and I went for our highly-anticipated pre-wedding photoshoot in Xinjiang, a remote region in northwest China. The photos and BTS video turned out beautifully, but in case you think the process was purely fun and smooth-sailing, it wasn’t. The awesome photos and brilliant cinematography by Moomedia (our photography team) belie the many challenges we faced in Xinjiang. But on the whole, it was an unforgettable experience which we will relish in our memories for the rest of our lives. Continue reading
It was a nice cool day in Brooklyn and we were on our way to Grimaldi’s, a pizzeria under Brooklyn Bridge that is famous for its pizzas baked in a brick oven using coal fire. This traditional method gives the pizza a unique smoky flavour that is popular with many New Yorkers. Continue reading
As I walked around the numerous eateries at Tanjong Pagar Centre one day, I noticed that many office workers were carrying drinks in huge green cup holders, with the logo Cocorica printed on them. The drinks looked like one litre each. These people must be really thirsty – I thought to myself. Continue reading
