We love eating sweet stuff, so we were happy to discover Dominique Ansel Bakery, a renowned pastry shop in Manhattan, New York City. Also read: 12 Best Places to Eat in Manhattan, New York City

Dominique Ansel Bakery

This classy pastry shop is known for inventing the Cronut, a croissant-doughnut hybrid pastry. It was founded by Dominique Ansel, a famous pastry chef who has been featured in many publications such as Vanity Fair, Time magazine, Business Insider, etc.

This Victorian-style shop is flanked on one side by a counter / kitchen where half a dozen chefs were busy preparing sinfully delicious desserts. When we arrived around evening time, the shop was filled with people eagerly queuing to get their hands on the desserts.

Cookie Shot

Unfortunately, the wildly popular cronuts were already sold out by the time we arrived. However, the shop offers other tantalizing desserts too. We ordered the Cookie Shot  ($3), which is another of Dominique Ansel’s invention. This is basically a chocolate chip cookie molded into a shot glass, and then filled to the brim with vanilla milk. I was very impressed that the cookie was able to hold the milk without leaking. The cookie was crunchy and sweet, and it went perfectly with the tasty cold milk. Well, I guess it’s pretty hard to go wrong with cookies and milk!

Frozen S’more

The Frozen S’more ($7) is an amazing dessert, comprising mainly of sweet marshmallow with a caramelized crust. It was prepared using a blowtorch, which gave it a nice smokey aroma. Beneath the crème-brûlée-like crust, I tasted velvety vanilla custard mixed with chunks of sweet chocolate feuilletine. On the whole, this sophisticated dessert was a novel sensory experience that totally differed from the usual run-of-the-mill desserts.

Conclusion

Dominique Ansel Bakery is a must-visit if you are ever in Manhattan NYC. The tantalizing desserts were both sophisticated and delicious; I had never eaten anything like these before. I will definitely be back earlier next time to check out the world-famous “cronuts”!
