Breakroom Burgers & Tacos – Delicious Fusion Tacos in New York City

We visited Breakroom Burgers & Tacos late one night during our trip to New York City, and we simply loved the tacos here! This is a small joint that serves a variety of delicious Mexican-Japanese fusion tacos and burgers. Also read: 12 Best Places to Eat in Manhattan, New York City

Old-School Vibe

We spotted the neon-lit facade of Breakroom from afar. Entering the joint, we were a little surprised by how small the place was. It has a 80s rugged feel to it with the brick walls and old-school furnishings, complete with a Ghostbusters logo on the wall. After looking through the menu, we decided to order the Taco Platter ($10.95) which lets us choose any three types of tacos. We went with Chipotle ChickenPork Belly, and Tempura Fish.

Chipotle Chicken Taco

The Chipotle Chicken Taco was a simple but delicious taco which I enjoyed. The chicken meat was very tender and went nicely with the mix of Pico de Gallo (chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, salt, lime) and Salsa Verde (Mexican green sauce made from herbs).

Pork Belly Taco

The Pork Belly Taco comprised of crispy pork belly confit mixed with pico de gallo and salsa verde too. The pork belly confit tasted savoury and had a nice bite to it. Together with the colorful sides, it made for a flavourful party in my mouth.

Tempura Fish Taco

Last but not least, the Tempura Fish Taco consisted of Tempura Battered Catfish, Slaw, Avocado, Pickled Onions and the “House Sauce”. This tasted different from the other two tacos; the overall flavour was more tangy and refreshing. The tempura fish was tender and had a nice smooth texture. The mix of slaw (coleslaw), avocado and pickled onions, and “house sauce” gave the taco a sharper and more tangy taste. On the whole, this fusion taco definitely tasted different from the usual taco, but we enjoyed it very much too!

Conclusion

We almost didn’t visit Breakroom Burgers & Tacos because we initially couldn’t fit it into our packed itinerary. Luckily, we found time to go one night, and we are so glad we managed to check out the delicious fusion tacos here. We will definitely visit this rugged joint the next time we are back in NYC to check out the burgers too!
