The Ultimate Maafushi Travel Guide

It is not easy to plan a holiday from scratch. Hence, we have created this Ultimate Maafushi Travel Guide for you!

Maafushi is a local island in Maldives that has beautiful beaches, plenty of fun activities, and lots of good food. While it might not be as luxurious as exclusive resort islands, it does provide interesting insights into the local culture. Maafushi is also very accessible; it can be reached in 40 minutes by speedboat from Male Airport.

Evan and I had a short vacation here after our wedding. We understand that it is quite tedious to plan a holiday, therefore we have come up with this guide to make life easier for other people who are planning a trip to Maafushi. This is a guide for travelers, by travelers.

    Hi,

Read your travel guide to Maafushi and it looks like very interesting. My husband and I (both are aunty and uncle) who are not really independent travellers (hehehe) are intending to visit Maldives this coming end of November. We do not know where to start from. Could you share with us your itinerary? So that we can have an idea. We are also Singaporeans.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Aunty Hai Yan!

Thank you for your kind words! Don’t worry, Maafushi is a small island and I’m sure you will have no problems. You can refer to our detailed Maafushi 5 Days Itinerary to find out more.

    Cheers,

Is the resort shown at 33 seconds in the video in Maafushi? If yes I would like to know the name.

Hi Arjun, no that resort is not in Maafushi. It is “Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives”, a private island resort. We went there by booking a one day resort excursion from Maafushi.

Hi, do the hotels (like Velana Beach Hotel) arrange for your first night stay at Hotel Jen in Male? Or did you have to arrange this yourself and pay for it separately, as your flight arrived late at night? Thank you.

Hi Rose! We arranged our first night’s stay at Hotel Jen Male on our own and paid for it separately. The hotels in Maafushi do NOT provide this booking service.

    Hi,

Thanks for such am awesome guide. I am planning to travel to Maldives next month and this guide has solved almost all my problems.
I would like to ask you one question. Did you plan for your day tours and snorkeling and night fishing tours after you checked in or in advance? Do the rates fluctuate much?

  • Evan

    Hi Ashish!

Thanks for your kind words and I’m happy you found the guide useful.

We booked all the tours after checking in. The day tour was booked through iCom Tours, while the snorkeling and sunset fishing were booked through our hotel (Velana Hotel).

I don’t think the rates fluctuate or differ a lot between hotels and agencies, but you can definitely take a walk around the very small island to compare prices if you wish.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for this helpful post! Btw, does Maafushi comply with a strict dress code? I’ve read in other blogs that you have to cover you shoulders and knees?

  • Evan

Hi Mrs.H! When you are walking around the island, you should not be skimpily dressed. However, I wouldn’t say the dress code is super strict. Shoulder-baring blouses and slightly short skirts should be fine, as long as you look decent. Wearing bikini is definitely a Big No, unless you are at the bikini beach.

Hi Evan, would like to check with you, if you know, is there any local ferry from Maafushi to Guraidhoo? Thank you =)

Hi Zie, yes ferry route 311 runs from Maafushi to Guraidhoo. However, note that there are NO ferries on Fridays. You can check out this website for more details.

It might also be possible to take a speedboat, you can email iCom Tours at info@icomtours.com to enquire. They are a reliable transport and excursion company based on Maafushi Island.
