Good Ambience and Great Service!

Restaurant Interiorw hotpot logoW Hotpot is elegantly designed with light-brown furnishings and painted motifs of Singapore tourist attractions on the walls. But what impressed us most was the awesome service of the staff! We were served by an Indian manager (Jerry) who was extremely polite and attentive to our needs. It is rare to find such great service in restaurants nowadays. He was also an interesting guy who spoke fluent Mandarin Chinese, Hokkien, and Cantonese; his level of Chinese will probably put many local Chinese Singaporeans to shame!

Sichuan Spicy Soup and Grouper Soup

yuan yang soup We ordered the Sichuan Spicy Soup which had the perfect level of spiciness; just enough to feel shiok but not overwhelmingly powerful. And unlike the soup base in some other restaurants, W Hotpot’s sichuan soup is not coated with an overly-thick layer of chill oil, which can be slightly off-putting.

For the other yuanyang base we went with the Grouper Soup as it was recommended by Jerry the manager. This savoury soup was rich and luscious with a smooth texture – the perfect soup base for our hotpot ingredients.

Prawn Paste

The prawn paste (bottom left of picture) tasted awesome. We loved how it absorbed the spicy flavour of the Sichuan soup and tasted so fresh and succulent in our mouths.

Sliced Black Pork

We decided to order the atas Sliced Black Pork as it was recommended by Jerry. It had the distinct flavour of black pork which left a pleasant aftertaste in my mouth. Like the prawn paste, it tasted very fresh and went perfectly with both soup bases.

Sliced Grouper Pagoda

Our most impressive dish for the night was the Sliced Grouper Pagoda, which was served on an elegant four-level plate stack. This is W Hotpot’s signature dish. Jerry taught us how to savour this dish: pick up a slice, dip it in the soup base for about eight seconds, mix it with the signature chili sauce, put it in your mouth and enjoy the delectable delicacy! We enjoyed cooking it in the Sichuan soup base so that it could absorb the spicy goodness of the soup. The fish tasted extremely fresh with no fishy smell at all. Highly recommended!

Conclusion: Delicious Chinese Hotpot with Awesome Service

On the whole, we had a wonderful dining experience at W Hotpot due to the delicious food and great service. We ordered the 2 pax dinner set ($59) along with ala carte prawn paste ($8.80) and beer ($8.80), and our bill came up to about $80. The price was slightly high, but it was definitely worth it.
