Amari Watergate Bangkok Review – Wonderful Hotel In Pratunam

I sat by the window of Amari Watergate Bangkok’s Executive Lounge, admiring the Bangkok skyline with a glass of wine in hand. It was already my third glass, and I had finished a fair bit of appetisers as well. The wife spoke to me and I simply gave her a dazed smile as I was getting a little tipsy. It was Happy Hour at the exclusive Executive Lounge, and I was enjoying every single minute of it. This is my full review of Amari Watergate Bangkok. This article was last updated on 18 October 2019.

Private Check-in for Executive Club Room Guests

We visited Bangkok for a short holiday this year, and we chose to stay at the Amari Watergate Bangkok.

As we entered the hotel main lobby on the ground floor, we were promptly greeted by a friendly hotel manager and an earnest bellboy who helped to carry our luggage. We then proceeded directly to the 32nd floor for our private check-in for Executive Club Room guests.

Executive Club Room guests are also entitled to late check-out till 3pm on the day of departure (subject to availability), which was great for me because I am a super last minute packer. This room category also gave us access to the Executive Lounge.

Located high up on the 32nd floor, the Executive Lounge is kitted out with sweeping floor-to-ceiling glass windows, marble top tables and cushy lounge chairs, radiating contemporary splendour like no others.

Upon reaching the level, we were ushered by a friendly hotel staff to sit on a comfy lounge chair in the classy Executive Lounge. She then proceeded to process our check-in. We were served with cold towels and fruit juice, which was a really nice gesture in the HOT Bangkok weather.

A short while later, the hotel staff informed us that our room was ready. It was located on the 32nd floor as well, which was great as this made it really convenient for our daily buffet breakfast and Happy Hour at the Executive Lounge.

On the whole, our private check-in was efficient and fuss-free. The hotel staff were all really friendly and nice too. Amari Watergate Bangkok sure knows how to make a good first impression! We highly recommend booking the Executive Club Room to enjoy this exclusive check-in experience.

Executive Club Room – Spacious and Well Furnished!

We walked to our Executive Club room, knocked on the door a few times to “notify” our arrival (a Chinese superstition), and entered.

The room was perfect for us as it was well furnished with everything we needed.

It had a decent-sized work desk where we could work on our blog and catch up on emails at night. Amari Watergate Bangkok provides complimentary wifi for its Club Room guests. The wifi was high-speed and connection was very stable.

On the side of the room, there was a cushy lounge chair that was perfect for chilling out while watching TV.

The bathroom was large and spacious, with a separate bathtub and standing shower area.

And of course, the highlight of the room was the king size bed, which was heavenly for resting at night after a long day of sightseeing!

Prime Location for Shopping!

Platinum Fashion Mall

As comfy as the room was, we wanted to get out quickly to explore Bangkok. Luckily, Amari Watergate Bangkok is located in a prime location with easy access to many popular shopping malls.

For example, Platinum Fashion Mall is located just across the road from the hotel! This building houses six floors of shops, selling everything from clothes, shoes, bags, fashion accessories to phone accessories and many more! The gf shopped for a few hours here and got away with many bargain buys.

Pratunam Morning Market

Another popular shopping location is the Pratunam Morning Market, located right beside Amari Watergate. We came here at 6am in the morning because the market only opens between 4am and 9am!

And so we arrived dreary-eyed at the morning market feeling only half-awake. However, by the time we reached, the market was already bustling and vibrant with lots of people walking around.

The clothes here are mainly for females and are sold at wholesale prices, which means they are at least about twenty to thirty percent cheaper than in normal shopping malls. However, you have to buy at least three pieces and above. We saw many people buying clothes in bulk quantities, presumably for their retail businesses.

Directions to Pratunam Morning Market
Pratunam Morning Market is a short five-minute walk from Amari Watergate Bangkok. After exiting the hotel, turn right and walk until you see the Soi 21 signboard above. Turn into the alley and you will see the morning market. Click here to see the directions.

Luxury Shopping

Other than flea markets and the usual shopping spots, there are also many high-end shopping malls near Amari Watergate Bangkok! We were impressed by the number of luxury brand shops at Siam Paragon, which was very similar to the high-end shopping centres in Singapore, but with slightly more affordable prices.

Many Other Malls within Walking Distance!

CentralWorld Mall

Siam Center

Siam Square One

Pantip Plaza

Big C Supercenter

There are many other malls within walking distance of Amari Watergate, such as CentralWorld (Timberland, Zara, Topman, Etude House, etc), Siam Center (Adidas, Armani Exchange, DKNY, etc), Siam Square One (American Eagle, Chiffon, Hello Kitty House, Lee, Nike, etc), and Pantip Plaza (IT gadgets, cameras).

For food and other daily necessities, visit Big C which is essentially a huge supermarket with everything you need. We stocked up on our mineral water and tidbits here, which were sold at very affordable prices.

On the whole, shopping in Bangkok felt slightly similar to shopping in Singapore, only that the prices were significantly more affordable.

Prime Location for FOOD

Wanton Noodles at SabX2

Pork Trotters Rice at SabX2

Demi Concept Soft Serve (Pushcart Stall outside Platinum Mall)

Chocolate toast with Strawberry at “After You” (Siam Square One branch)

“Som Tam Nua” Thai Restaurant at Siam Square One

“Inter” Thai restaurant at Siam Square

And there were SO MUCH GOOD FOOD within walking distance of Amari Watergate! And they simply tasted A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

SabX2 is a restaurant located along Soi Petchburi 19, which is just beside Amari Watergate! The restaurant is famous for its wonderfully delicious wanton noodles and pork trotters rice. I mixed in some chilli powder and sugar in the wanton noodles (the Thai way of eating?), and the party of delicious flavours blew me away. The pork leg rice was a winner too with its rich savoury flavours! Click here for directions to SabX2 from Amari Watergate (a five-minute walk).

We also tried Demi Concept’s Charcoal-Matcha soft serve ice cream, located at a pushcart stall right outside Platinum Mall. It tasted heavenly, and provided the perfect relief from the hot weather. Make sure you eat it quickly though; our ice cream started melting within a minute after we bought it!

And of course, no visit to Bangkok would be complete without visiting After You, a dessert shop famous for its pretty and delicious desserts. We visited the branch at Siam Square One and ordered the Chocolate Toast with Strawberry. It exceeded all our expectations! It simply tasted heavenly, with a rich and alluring sweetness that had us swooning from the first bite.

Som Tam Nua is located at Siam Square one too and we came here for lunch on our last day in Bangkok. The food tasted fresh and scrumptious; it’s no wonder the restaurant has so many rave reviews online!

For dinner, we visited Inter two nights in a row. This is a Thai restaurant at Siam Square that offers authentic Thai food at very affordable prices. The restaurant was filled with locals on both nights, so we knew we were in the right place; only locals would know where the best food are! We were pleasantly surprised to find that the food here had relatively light (but tasty) flavours. For example, the Tom Yam soup was not overly spicy, but had a delicate yet gutsy flavour. Which was good because we did not want to have an overly heavy meal before turning in for the night.

Every night, we would return to the hotel after a whole day of shopping and eating. And we were so grateful to return to a comfortable and clean room with a luxurious king size bed!

Prime Location for Massage!

Amari Watergate Bangkok is just five minutes away from Soi Phetchaburi 15, an alley famous for its numerous massage joints.

We went for several massage sessions at the Number One massage parlour, which is the most famous massage parlour along Soi 15. Our masseuses were professional, friendly, and skillful. Because we went as a couple, we were given a private partition, separated from other partitions by curtains.

The massage felt heavenly, and I could literally feel my aches and sores being rubbed away by my masseuse. I am always impressed by their strength despite their petite size. Number One is located just 6 minutes away from Amari Watergate by walking. Click here for directions.

There are many other massage joints along the alley, such as Foot Haven Massage, Arunda Oriental Massage, etc. However, we did not try these as we were very satisfied with Number One. Amari Watergate’s prime location for shopping, eating, and massage truly provides its guests with the ideal balance between lifestyle and convenience!

Amari Watergate Gym and Pool

Amari Watergate Bangkok’s gym has full length windows which provide a paranomic view of the Bangkok downtown area. It felt nice to enjoy this great view while running on the treadmill.

The spacious gym was well-equipped and I had no problem doing my workout routine which required the bench press, free weights, pull-up bar, lat pulldown machine, etc.

The swimming pool was beautiful, and you get to enjoy the awesome city view while frolicking in the pool. It felt nice to exercise and burn off the calories from all the sinful foods we ate.

But every morning after exercising, we would proceed to the daily breakfast buffet at the Executive Lounge. And back came the calories.

Daily Breakfast Buffet at Executive Lounge

We had our daily breakfast buffet at the Executive Lounge, which was nice because we got to enjoy great views of the Bangkok skyline while eating.

The Executive Lounge is usually quite peaceful with not too many guests, making it a serene place to enjoy breakfast.

There is a decent variety of food, and the spread changed slightly every day so we didn’t get bored eating the same food every day.

Amari Watergate also offers premium TWG tea for its breakfast; it felt good to drink atas tea while having breakfast.

Happy Hour at the Executive Lounge

One day, after shopping and eating, we decided to enjoy the Happy Hour at the Executive Lounge (daily 5pm to 7pm).

We got to enjoy a selection of complimentary chilled cocktails, beers, wines and hors d’oeuvres (a.k.a appetizers). Fruit juices, soft drinks, tea or coffee are also complimentary throughout the day.

There weren’t many guests here, making it a nice environment to relax and chill. I settled down at a table by the window with a glass of wine in hand, admiring the Bangkok skyline through the sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows.

I was about to start my fourth glass of Chardonnay before the wife ordered gently persuaded me to stop. Which was good too because we were going for dinner at Inter Thai restaurant afterwards and I didn’t want to fall asleep halfway during dinner.

Breeze Spa at Amari Watergate Bangkok

The wife indulged in a relaxing spa session at the classy Breeze Spa. Even though it may be more expensive than the massage joints along the streets, it’s definitely worth the premium you pay. At Breeze Spa, you will be able to indulge in a luxurious spa in an exclusive and serene environment.

Great Service at Amari Watergate Bangkok!

Throughout our stay, we enjoyed exemplary service from the staff of Amari Watergate Bangkok. During our daily breakfasts, we didn’t have any problem getting the attention of the staff, and they were all friendly and professional. Our rooms were also cleaned properly every day.

But what impressed us most was the enthusiastic and helpful hotel staff at the entrance who was responsible for helping guests to call for cabs. He always spoke to the taxi driver beforehand to ensure that the driver agreed to charge us by the meter, instead of quoting an unreasonable fare. Afterwards, he would record down the taxi number, and gave us the piece of paper with the taxi number for security reasons. And we noticed that he worked from morning to night at the hotel entrance, in the unforgiving heat of Bangkok. Kudos to Amari Watergate Bangkok for having such dedicated staff!

Amari Watergate Bangkok – Still a Favourite for Singaporeans!

With its awesome service, wonderful hotel facilities, exclusive Executive Lounge, kickass city view, and fantastic prime location for eating, shopping and massage, it is no wonder Amari Watergate Bangkok remains one of the top choices for Singaporeans to stay during their trip to Bangkok. We had an amazing time here, and will definitely be returning again soon!
