Hai Di Lao Singapore - Chicken Soup in bowlsHai Di Lao Singapore - Individual Mala Pot with Fish PasteHai Di Lao Singapore - Mala and Chicken Soup BaseThis restaurant needs no introduction. After its tremendous success in China, Hai Di Lao is now making waves in the sandy shores of Singapore. Every time we visit, we are always blown away for the amazing food and impeccable service. The ingredients are always super fresh and delicious, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. They will provide you with hand towels, hair ties, cloth for cleaning your glasses, etc. Individual pots are available too. Our favourite ingredients are the succulent Pork Belly and Fish Paste. 7. Taikoo Lane Hotpot

Taikoo Lane Hotpot is a new Chinese hotpot restaurant that opened in August this year at Chinatown Point. Incidentally, the owners of Taikoo Lane Hotpot are also behind popular Sichuan cuisine restaurant Chengdu Restaurant at Amoy Street, which opened in 2018.

The wife and I enjoyed our meal here very much. Most of the ingredients were very fresh and delicious. The prices are also slightly less expensive compared to other upscale hotpot restaurants in Singapore. Its proximity to the CBD area makes it a great spot for a sumptuous dinner after work.

Update 14 September 2019: Sadly, The Magic of ChongQing Hot Pot has closed down after 25 years in business. However, according to their Facebook page, they are currently looking for a new location to open their restaurant again.

The Magic of ChongQing Hot Pot at Tanglin Shopping Centre has been around for many years, but still continues to be popular with Chinese hotpot fans because of its high quality Szechuan-style hotpot. The restaurant offers hotpot buffet, but you can choose to order ala carte too. For our soup base, we usually go for half pot Old Faithful Chicken Stock and half pot Ma Lang Tang. Our favourite dishes include the delectable Fish Paste, Shrimp Wantons, and Chicken Balls.

10. Shang Pin Hotpot

Shang Pin Hot PotShang Pin Hot Pot - Soup BaseShang Pin Hot PotMany people have been making comparisons between Hai Di Lao and Shang Pin Hot Pot. This is because rumour has it that Shang Pin is managed by ex-staff of Hai Di Lao. Indeed, we found the food and service to be of similar standard, though Hai Di Lao still wins by a slight margin. Also, Hai Di Lao provides a much more comfortable and luxurious ambience. However, if you just want to enjoy sumptuous Szechuan hotpot without the frills, Shang Pin Hot Pot is the place for you!
